(+21)Salt it yourself.
Would that be so difficult?
(+5)Bingo. You want something done, do it yourself.
And the first comment is all that was really necessary here. You could have done it yourself, but you're apparently useless.

(+4)Where the fuck are your hands?
I assume you lost them in some kind of freak hair straightening accident so here are some alternatives.
--Method one--
Step one: Hold bag of salt firmly in teeth.
Step two: Shake head like a dog.
Step three: Admire handiwork.
Step four: Go back to being a useless bitch.
--Method two--
Step one: Fly to Japan.
Step two: Talk to a Sensei about your problem.
Step three: Take years to learn to use your feet like Jackie Chan in that one movie.
Step four: Beat that bully in a karate fight.
Step five: Wait I mean salt the driveway your own damn self.
In all seriousness this is why women are down-trodden historically and why they continue to be paid less. There are plenty of women who can handle themselves and give women a good name. Then there are people like you. People who ruin the bell curve and make men think that women suck.
Stop being lame.
(+2)That's what I'm screaming.
(-2)Why don't men cook and do the dishes then? In households like this (or it sounds like at least), there is still "mens work" and "womens work". In my house, because my boyfriend just can't seem to do the dishes right and his idea of cooking is ramen, I do those things. Also laundry, because he puts in too much soap, can't fold, and doesn't hang. In return, he does the yard work and any "handy" stuff that needs done around the house.
don't get on her case and call her all sorts of names when if it was the man whining about the dishes not being done people here would be saying "get your wife to do it".
(for the record, after 4 days of nagging, I would probably punch my BF in the gut, ask him how to do it and then do it myself, and then do something else super spiteful so he hates the next week or so of his life. merry christmas!:)
(+2)#93...
"if it was the man whining about the dishes not being done people here would be saying "get your wife to do it"."
Are you too dumb to realize that people who say things like that are trolls?
(0)#93
I would dump you...not because you punched me, but because you're dumb enough to have to ask how to throw a handful of salt on the ground.
(0)I understand your point...the fact of it is though, no one is going to get hurt if things aren't cleaned correctly or laundry isn't done wrong. And most likely dinner won't hurt anyone too bad. However, salting the driveway obviously proved to be something that can hurt if not done. I understand her want of her husband or father-in-law to do it, but the fact that she waited 4 days and it didn't happen, she should have taken it on herself...if she had, she wouldn't have fallen. YDI
(+11) Why didn't you salt it for yourself? You think it's more work than constantly bitching about it for four days? YDI.
(+4)Exactly. You spent 4 days bitching when you could have been out there salting it. Don't even try to pull the "It's a man's job to do that" either. If a guy made a thread saying "My wife didn't make me a sandwich for 4 days. I then made one myself a choked. FML." You would call him sexist.
YDI for being a lazy ass.
(+6)YDI for not doing it yourself.
(+5)Sounds like it could've been avoided had you not been lazy.
(+5)Exactly, she can nag others about it for four days but can't just do it herself?!? Give me a break!
#5 - On 12/23/2009 at 3:33pm by bazza1aa
(+12)You do know this isnt the 1950s anymore right? You're giving women a bad name.
(+4)Are you too dumb to throw some salt on the ground, or what? :S
#7 - On 12/23/2009 at 3:35pm by dacho
(+3)Because salt is way better than ice for your wounds;)
(+4)Should've salted it yourself. Now go make me a sandwich, but there better not be any ice in it.
(+3)Your father-in-law's reaction sounds like he thought the same thing about doing it yourself instead of pestering him.
(-1)That's what you get for being a fat and lazy woman who can't do it herself. YDI
(-1)
(+2)if you had given some info on why you couldn't have done it yourself, then fine- fyl. but i don't see that here, so ydi.
(+2)He-LLO, she could have, like, totally scratched a nail or something! Like OMG!
(+2)At the risk of beating a dead horse... DIY.
(0)YDI. Stop being a dependent moron and it yourself.
(+2)DIY; YDI
Now that's what I'd call adding inSalt to injury.
#18 - On 12/23/2009 at 4:01pm by shaister
(+1)i cringed at your comment. well done
(+1)You could have done it yourself versus Nagging and Bitching for 4 days.
(+1)you couldnt do it yourself?
(-2)YDI for being a sexist pig
Well we could sit around playing the coulda shoulda game or we could laugh about it. ha ha. maybe you shouldn't walk on ice. that would fix this whole problem. don't walk on it.
#22 - On 12/23/2009 at 4:13pm by Applepineapple31
(0)Or learn to walk properly so you don't fall when you step on it. Take some martial arts or something.
(+2)Really what everyone else said stop being a lazy whining bitch and do it your fucking self.
(+2)Think of all the million girls around the world, living alone, slipping on their sidewalk because they don't have a man to spread salt over the ice. Really. At least he got the hint.
#24 - On 12/23/2009 at 4:17pm by Tozi
(0)Yes ofcourse.. the Lazy-Clumsy-Women epidemic..it's a tragedy..
(+1)If their was a reason you couldn't salt it yourself, you should have mentioned it, but you didn't so YDI for not doing it yourself
(+2)you couldn't salt it yourself....? I've been salting the stairs at my house since I was 13 (I'm 20 now) and still do it occasionally when my dad can't.. God forbid you actually do something yourself. and if you knew they were icy as hell you should have been more careful. Ice isn't THAT hard to walk on.. You deserve it. If you're able to walk down the stairs fine (well, up until now that is) then you can get off your ass and salt them
(-4)Too many negative votes, comment buried. Show the comment.
I'm tempted to say YDI for not doing it yourself, but for all we know, maybe the OP is the only one who does any housework, and she just wanted the men to pull their weight around the house. The OP didn't mention any reason why she couldn't do it.
(+2)As someone who actually does do all the housework, it is MUCH easier to do something myself instead of bothering my husband about it. This woman (little girl?) waited FOUR DAYS. I feel like I should applaud her patience, but it certainly didn't pay off.
(+2)There's no reason to assume she does anything around the house, in fact it's 100% the opposite in this case. There is more proof that she sits around and does nothing in her post then there is proof that she does anything.
We can tell by reading that for 4 days she did nothing but pester someone else to do it.
We can't tell if she was sitting around doing nothing or doing something.
(+2)There's not more proof that she does nothing. It doesn't say 'I sat on the sofa for four days and all I did was tell my husband to salt my drive'. Maybe she spent the whole four days doing the housework and preparing a Christmas dinner, and when she saw her husband she asked 'would you mind saltign the drive? i'm kinda busy.'
But NO. Let's ASSUME. Assuming ALWAYS works.
(0)Ok what did you expect him to do, plant a fucking kiss on it? Get over yourself. I know 5 year olds that did the same minus the complaining. If a 5 year old can forget about it so easily, so can you.
(+2)Was there some reason you couldn't salt it yourself? Unless there was a reason why you can't do it that you didn't mention then you deserved it for waiting around expecting someone else to do it for you.
(+1)Her salting arm was broken
(-1)That sucks. You could of done it yourself - or at least the entrance and the stairs. But I agree with 27, that could be the case. And what if she has an injury and can't do it? One year my mom fell and she could barely bend her back - I had to pick up stuff from the floor for her, thus she couldnt do any housework. Dont jump to conclusions :)
(+1)Same as basically everyone else has already said... were you incapable of doing it yourself?...
#33 - On 12/23/2009 at 4:49pm by KO2
(+2)who else is a girl who can put salt down? I agree with the people saying that unless you have a reason for not putting it down your self the FYL If you can do it then YDI
(I shoveled my 89 year grandpas house (by myself) and put salt down. I was a 21 year old girl.)
(+2)I hope you learned your lesson, salt it yourself next time.
(+1)YDI it for being lazy and not doing it yourself
(+3)You probably spent more time nagging than you would have spent salting the sidewalk yourself.
(+2)YDI. I agree with #37
(+2)Women like you give us a bad name. Do you really need the big strong man to do it for you, since you are obviously so feminine and weak?
Honestly, grow a fucking backbone and be a little bit independent. If you had an excuse not to, you would have put it in the fml.
Twat.
(-2) hmm.. angry comments.. I personally think that the person wouldn't have thought it was a "FML" moment if she was sitting on her ass and just nagging... unless she is a fat ass....lol
(+2)There are a lot of people who feel entitled to such pampering, so it wouldn't surprise me if she was just nagging the entire time.
(+1)um so why do you need a MAN to salt your sidewalk? i've been salting our sidewalk since i was 10 years old. and yes i'm a girl. sheesh, if you want something done that badly, i dont see why you couldnt take a precious 10 minutes out of your day to do it yourself.
(-1)strange how all the comments say YDI, but more people actually voted FYL, more than twice as many at this point.
(+1) Whats so unlady like by salting?
Both my Mom and I salt our area every year!!
(+2)I bet that stings...
(+1)YDI for not doing it yourself.
(0)what is salting... Is there something that I'm not getting about sidewalks and salting?
(+1)You buy a bag of salt for ice. You sprinkle it on the ice on the ground so that you won't slip on it. It works
(0)Salt lowers the freezing/melting point of water, so it deters ice from forming in the first place as well as contributing to the melting of existing ice.
By the way, you might find the following resource useful: GOOGLE.COM
I found this article by googling "why salt for ice": http://science.howstuffworks.com/road-salt.htm
So next time, google it yourself.
#59 - On 12/23/2009 at 9:01pm by LMFAO_fail
(-2)that was one of the stupidest comments I have ever read! Seeing as you are obviously connected to the internet, you should have tried the marvelous invention that is google.
(0)YDI for not doing it yourself you lazy bitch. how hard is it to get some rock salt and sprinkle it on the sidewalk? next time do it yourself instead of nagging others.
(+1)i know its annoyin when no one in your family does anything, but do it yourself and stop crying YDI
(+1)And now you'll probably spend the next four days nagging them to bring you aspirin.
(+1)You should have done it yourself! It's not a big deal!
#51 - On 12/23/2009 at 7:51pm by BigM1ke
(+2)If OP couldn't have done it herself, then FHL.
But if she's the type who could've done it herself but chose to nag men to do it for her instead, then she's also probably the type who would, after slipping on the ice, blame them for not salting it and "causing" her fall. HDI
(0)Talk about rubbing salt on your wound. LOL
(+1)Why couldn't you do it? It's not that hard to salt a sidewalk or driveway. Unless you're physically handicapped to where you can't reach into a bag and throw a bunch of salt crystals on the ground, you have no excuses for waiting for someone else to do it. YDI.
(+1)Why didn't you just salt it yourself?
(0)Just do it yourself you lazy bitch.
(+1) u totally deserved it. u should have done it.
can u do it urself?????
Im a girl n i shovel the snow of my sidewalks n then salt them
#63 - On 12/23/2009 at 9:41pm by gime413
(+1)I agree. I would have done it myself. We got about 2 feet of snow here over the weekend and I shoveled our driveway, our walkway and our porch. Salting is easy to do, there's no reason you couldn't have done it yourself.
(0)Do it yourself next time, you idiot. Especially if it took 4 days of asking them to do it..
(-1)YDI for hurting the environment.
(+1)Seeing as how you obviously knew it was a problem and you didn't do it yourself and still were not careful on the ice or go around it, You deserved it.
(+1)Can you really be mad at someone for doing something you wouldn't even do?
Yes, you fell, but you could have iced the damn sidewalk yourself.
(+1)karma
(0)YDI for not getting off your fat lazy ass and doing it yourself you useless piece of shit.
(+2)haha i live in florida looser. 65 degrees of pure joy.
(+1)Why's it a man's work to salt the sidewalk? salt it yourself.
(+1)FYL that they were unhelpful, but you could have done it yourself.
(+1)do it yourself next time!
(+1)Well, that's one way of convincing him to do it.....
(0)For real, some women really give us females a bad rep. Why rely on men to do something you can do yourself? This is why we are thought of as weaker. Bah!
(+1)Seriously?? It sucks that you hit your head. But honestly if you had 4 days to nag them to do it... you surely could have found 2 minutes to have done it yourself.
(0)-_- maybe your injury will teach you to do it your fucking self
(+1)You couldn't do it yourself because ?
(+1)YDI for not doing i yourself, even though you really wanted it to be salted
#86 - On 12/24/2009 at 5:15am by mrfreak219
(0)Dumbass, do it yourself. YDI for walking on ice when you knew it was there.
(-1)wow you could have done it yourself instead of probably sitting your lazy ass down you dont need men dto do everything for u wat are youlike 80 years old...Do it yourself next time or it would be uin da emergency room getting stitches
(+1)why the hell didnt you do it yourself? especially after 4 days after nagging
(+1)Do it yourself! If they weren't doing it, they obviously didn't see a need to. If you were worried about the salt, you should have done it.
I bet you would sit around waiting for someone else to call 911 if a school bus crashed in front of your house. If your hand got chopped off in the lawn mower, you'd probably bleed to death sitting on the lawn instead of running inside to call for help.
(0)You couldn't have done it yourself? YDI, you lazy bitch.
(0)Do it yourself, you lazy, spoiled cunt.YDI.
(+1)Unless you are totally missing both arms and too poor to afford prosthetics, you deserved to slip and fall on the ice that you were too lazy to salt yourself.
(+1)and you couldn't salt it yourself, because..
(+1)WHY DIDN'T YOU DO IT YOURSELF??? IS IT SO DIFFICULT!??
(+1)It's really not that hard to salt the steps... YDI. Women like you give us a bad name... for the record... I shovelled my walk and 2 neighbours' walks just for the hell of it after we got 10 inches of snow in one day and wind had piled knee high drifts. Phew, at least I know I'M competent.
(+1)Hey here's an idea jackass: DO IT YOURSELF! YDI.
(+1)Just because you're a woman doesn't mean you should expect a man to salt the driveway for you. Women who expect special treatment due to their gender make us all look bad.
#104 - On 12/25/2009 at 12:30am by haildixie
(+1)so do it yourself!!
104 has it right. idiot.
(-3)Too many negative votes, comment buried. Show the comment.
WOW--just checked out this website because I got the book for Christmas. What a bunch of mean-assed people. I couldn't salt my own sidewalk because the bags of salt weigh over 20 pounds and I've had three back surgeries. Not allowed. Luckily I have neighbors totally unlike all of you losers and they helped me out. May you all at some time slip on the ice and be surrounded by people just like you. Idiots. Pointing at you and calling you idiot.
Merry Christmas. You all are just friggin' overflowing with the milk of human kindness, aren't you?
#107 - On 12/25/2009 at 9:54pm by 52miscellaneous
(+2)You can't complain because you did not make your injury clear in your FML. If you had said "They refused to salt it and I can't because of my bad back..." people would have responded differently. FYL for the real scenario, but you have to understand why people responded the way they did.
And about your second comment, telling people to slip on ice and yelling at them for misunderstanding your misleading FML is not exactly respectful.
(0)By the way, the line right under Add a comment says: Speak your mind, but please try and be respectful.
#108 - On 12/25/2009 at 10:05pm by 52miscellaneous
(+1)Which you also did not pay attention to. How about checking what you're writing before submission? It usually helps if one is clear, concise, and to the point. Seriously. Reread what you wrote, you say NOTHING of an injury or LACK OF ABILITY to salt. Just that you told your husband and his father to do it for you. It might help if you went over some of the other postings as well, some even include that IF you had an injury or were UNABLE to do it, then it is a FYL.
Just remember: Had you mentioned an injury previously, people would have been supportive of you.
(+1)I agree with everyone that said "DO IT YOURSELF!"
(+1)if u weren't living with your husband and father-in-law, would you have moaned at every man you saw to do it for you?
do it yourself, you lazy a$$
(+1)better late than never
(+1)Equal rights. You want em, you got em. Do it your self and stop crying.
(+1)Unless you are pregnant/injured/ill/sole breadwinner of the family with no time, why didn't you salt the sidewalk yourself? No heavy lifting involved, and you seemed to be the one most interested in getting the job done.
Get your husband to wash his own socks, then you tend to safety issues since you seem to be more aware about what's going on.
(+1)Lazy. DO IT YOURSELF. Is that so hard? Now you've got a sore head because you were too lazy to salt it yourself and ensure your footing didn't slip that badly. YDI
(0)why didnt you just do it yourself?
(0)is there a rule that YOU can't touch the driveway salt? Because that's the only reason I could think of for not, oh, I don't know, DO IT YOURSELF.
(0)ydi for not salting it yourself
