Today, someone hit my parked car. The impact caused the front of the car to go up onto the sidewalk, and I got a ticket for parking there. FML

Was it a hit and run? If so, you're going to need to report it to the cops anyway, so tell them about the ticket. Maybe he can give you some insight.

Some cars have a rigid enough front end that damage wouldn't be obvious of a recent impact. The police officer probably didn't notice it and thought you parked there on purpose. Sorry, OP :(
