We've all been there

Today, I looked through my daughter’s search history. Did I find porn? No, worse. At the age of 17, she has been looking up the definitions of commonly used words such as ‘arbitrary,’ ‘pretentious,’ and ‘initiative.’ FML

Same thing different taste

1. you snooped (**** her life) 2. she's at least expanding her knowledge 3. you as a parent have a role in helping to aid in expanding her repertoire. Maybe you should take some blame

...would you rather she didn't look them up and remained ignorant then? Because those are your two options here.

We at least know the mom is ignorant. Everyone else uses incognito/safe browsing to browse ****. But its not the mom’s initiative to learn that, nor her forte to understand things like that either.

You got the definition of pretentious covered at least

Solicit consideration regularly? The poinography and radical ideologies espoused online are far worse than the search of knowledge. Oh, I accused you of fishing for likes.

What kind of 17-year-old commonly uses those words? She's learning, and you're ******** on her because those words have only become known to her now? Here's some more common words for you: go **** yourself.

maybe she needs to look stuff up because her parents are belittling, controlling, and unhelpful

A lot of 17 year olds don't know those definitions. I teach them. I'm glad she's looking them up. It shows she's more motivated than most people her age. You should be encouraging, not belittling.

Sounds like high school vocabulary homework.

Or perhaps she was just looking up the spelling.

How else are people supposed to learn precise definitions? Often, young people hear words like these and get a vague idea of their meanings from the context. You should be proud of her that she's curious enough to want to learn more.
