Today, I found an unfamiliar ring in my purse. Thinking it was fake, I gave it to a little girl. Thanks to my mother, I later found out that the ring was my grandmother's and it was made of gold and had a real ruby. My mother added that my grandmother trusted me to keep it in our family. FML

Why in heaven's name did somebody just stick it in your purse without telling you?

You probably should have at least checked with somebody before assuming it was fake

Okay, first of all, how did you NOT know it was in your purse if it belonged to a family member who entrusted it to you? Second, WHY would you just give it away without at least inquiring about it? Third, WHY did no one tell you they put it in your purse? Fourth, why was it in your purse and not somewhere more safe, like a jewelry box? And five, OMG what is wrong with you? That was one of the stupidest things anyone has ever done, and that's saying something.

And nobody told you it had been placed in your purse? Apparently being a ******* idiot runs in the family.

A. Your mother is dumb for not telling you B. Your dumb for giving it away C. Think of an adult and mature way to get it back. annddddd.... yea.

Why had you never heard about this ring before? It seems weird that your family would just... Plop it in your purse one day, without having had a small talk beforehand regarding the heirloom. Anyway, I hope you're able to work something out and I really need a follow up on this xD

I feel so bad for you right now, hope she forgives you

Who passes down a family heirloom without letting said heir know? Also, if it was so important to her mom, why didn't she "present" the ring in a more official if not respectful manner?

This is both an FML and a YDI. FYL that you didn't know what it was, and that it showed up in your purse without your knowledge. But holy **** it's a massive YDI that you just gave it away. That's some first class dumbassery.

You're trying to tell us that, there was a family heirloom in your purse and you had no idea?

go get the little girl.. buy her a few M&Ms and get your family treasure back
