Today, I was invited by my boyfriend's parents for dinner at their house. The dinner went well I thought, until I was getting ready to leave. Before I could make it out the front door, I could hear them discussing their disappointment that their son would ever consider someone like me. FML

Today, I met my new boyfriend’s parents, hoping that they would like me. They made subtle, mean comments during dinner and made me feel like total crap, all because my boyfriend left his ex-wife for me. They don’t get that we’re both good and compatible for each other, and that’s what matters. FML

Today, my parents met my boyfriend, and to say it went badly is an understatement. My mom went outside to relax by chain smoking and the shouting, and the screaming only ended when my dad took my boyfriend by the scruff of the neck and threw him out the front door into the street. FML

I, being a guy, am in the same boat as your boyfriend. My now fiance's parents (after nearly 6 years of us being together, buying a house and actively planning our wedding, which is happening, this Oct.) have on several occasions in the last month asked if it wouldn't be better if she and I were just friends. The same question has been asked of me the last 6 years every 4 months.
