Tell him that you've got a hot date planned for the both of you and then take him on an extensive shoe shopping trip with all your girlfriends so he can have the pleasure of listening to hours of girl talk. Just think, he'll make a great bag carrier for everyone. :p

I really don't think that's bad, I mean honestly I believe you should try to share your interests. Or, at least explain that you don't personally see a con as being "romantic", even if he does. Then again my advice is biased as I'm a regular con-goer and was pretty stoked to see a staged Jedi battle at Comic-con New York. >-> But I'm one of them nerdy girls.
