...why on earth not? We have no idea what the job is. If it's easy enough to do and the OP's friend can prove they can do it, why wouldn't the boss take them up on it? It's how capitalism works. It's why workers need solidarity :p

But see...your boss CAN'T fire you just to hire your friend. Like, legally, they can't. Just don't give them a reason to fire you, and you'll be fine.

Yeah, where I live, an employer can fire you for whatever reason they want, no explanation offered at all.

Nope. Here in Australia we have unfair dismissal laws that provide employees w protection & security. Thank god for the unions!!!

Fair Work Australia for the win! Every job I've ever had has handed out a copy of fair work rights and contact info for an ombudsman with the employment package so I'm pretty sure OP's job is safe

Honestly, your "best friend" is a horrible person. That's one of those things I can picture you guys like talking and them bringing up as like a joke but to think about them actually going to your work and doing it is so messed up.
