Today, I was a TA for a history class and the class was taking a test. About halfway through, I noticed one kid had a small piece of paper in his hand. I ran up the row, grabbed his test, and ripped it into four pieces. Then I took the note from him. It said "I believe in you, -Mom." FML

dude, you grab the note first, read it, and THEN you rip the test in four pieces

seriously, what posessed you to rip it up? why not just check and see what he's looking at? he probably had serious self confidence issues as a high school student with some of those and seeing tons of kids with even bigger problems than mine, i know that that kid could be seriously bummin because of that

You can say all you want about "the kid has self-esteem issues". My friend cheats ALL the time by writing little anagrams on his hands. I believe in you - Mom = I B I Y M = could be anything to the person. Point is you don't really know and you shouldn't be looking at notes during a test.

Why does everybody think this is such a big deal? Stop giving the student so much credit! If the assumption that this is a high school or university level course is correct, he is not going to be emotionally scarred from this incident. I am in 12th grade and have seen teachers rip up tests because of suspected cheating. Most of the time they were. The kid should know better by now. If he still needs a confidence boost from his mother at that age, there are more serious issues for him to deal with. If he was in 5th grade, i would understand the outrage; but seriously, he probably was cheating.
