Today, I had to once again lie to a customer about why I was the only one manning the shop, saying that they must have run out for lunch - my coworkers were too busy getting stoned in their cars to do their job. FML

OP here. I don't use this site enough to know that I needed an account to reply... I'm a barber. We're all independent contractors and we don't make money unless we're physically working. I make good money and have no intention of quitting; my problem with my coworkers getting stoned is that customers have an unnecessary wait time when they should be able to be served immediately, and when they do come back in, it looks bad on everyone as a whole for them to smell like that on the clock - an no, they're perfumes aren't cloaking it. The boss knows they smoke, she knows they smoke on the clock, but when anyone tells her that someone is being lax, her response is "well more money for you, then." Again, that's not the problem I'm having. I actually like my job, and I want customers to actually have a good experience when they're there. With what my coworkers are doing, they're not. Also, it's an independent store. There is no HR, no corporate, just the woman who owns the business itself - she's the only boss.

You shouldn't cover for their asses anymore. If they wanna get stoned while you work, they should have to deal with the consequences. Next time, you should tell the customer the truth. If you can't bring yourself to report your coworkers, the customer might. You've gotta at least try.

still sucks, if I was a customer and saw your co-workers stoned whilst on the job I'd leave and go find a different shop. You say you're making good money, so I assume you've built a decent client base who come to the shop to be served by you.

Next time just call the cops when they get in the car. They get arrested, possibly, and the boss will get in trouble or will have to fire them.

Im not sure how that can be more money for you anyway. Customers might get upset and leave. You obviously cant work on more than one person.

You're kidding, right? You can't work on more than one *at a time*, but you can work on more than one in a day. Let's say 3 people come into the shop around the same time, and OP's coworkers are there. OP gets one client, and the other 2 go to coworkers. Now let's say those 3 people come in while everyone else is out getting high. OP tells them there will be a short wait, and helps all 3 clients, one after the other. That's two extra people paying OP instead of someone else. Yes, at a certain point some people will probably get annoyed at the wait time and leave, but up until that point all the clients who come in will be waiting for OP to help them rather than being served by the other people who work there. That's how OP is making more money. Get it?

Then say something to those potheads.

same i work at walmart my supervisor is a 21 year jack ass whose busy trying to look good instead of doing his job. 90% I'm doing every thing from cooking, cleaning, working with customers, and restocking because my coworkers kiss my supervisor's ass my supervisor calls me lazy and does his best to make me hate my job. the best revenge you can get is find another job then once you have it go to work once they leave you by yourself LEAVE!!!!! clock out go home

#114 You need to go over you supervisor's head and tell upper management to evaluate your work, you might be supervisor next! If you complain that you're getting treated unfairly they might see you as complaining and just trying to get out of doing your job. you're hard work will speak for itself.

Quit covering for them! Call the cops one time while they're out there. That'll teach them. AND get them fired.

At least you arent a rat, even if they are stinkbugs

You all need to stop acting like getting high is the equivalent to being drunk... Or worse. Calm tf down.

You need to stop acting like either way it impairs many of your senses and obviously affects their performance at work.

You deserve to work for someone better and more professional. Perhaps it's time to start looking?

call the police and put in an anonymous tip. just make sure your space and car etc are clean of anything you could get in trouble for. because they will probably search you too(since its anonymous)
