Today, I got a call from a job I had applied for. Everything went great until I realized I had applied to the wrong location, across town. I'm so broke, I went to the interview anyway. It will cost me more to pay for the gas to drive there to work, than what I will actually make. FML

Maybe see if the other location will accept you since that location did? Good luck OP

Could you look into moving closer to the job? It's alright to decline the offer if it doesn't work for you.

You live in Tennessee. Their cities aren't even big

I live in the country. Across town is 45 min away.

I'm not sure what the guidelines for working in the states are but here if you can get through the probation period, you're an official employee and can request a transfer providing there's an opening in the location you want.

Couldn't you ask if there is any way they could/can transfer you to the other location?

Are public buses an option for you? You can save a good bit of money with them. Congrats on the job, OP. Hope things work out for ya.

Perhaps you could carpool, use Uber or Lyft, or public transportation?

but, if you end up paying more for gas to go to that job, than you'll make.. how will that help you at all? seems like you'd be better off not going then. (no income is certainly better than negative income) Hang in there and look for something better.

Uh...monthly bus pass? Ride your bike?

How far is across town? And how much you making that you can't afford the gas?

I don't understand. Minimum wage is like $7.25 an hour at least. Even a 10 hour part time job would be like 50 or 60 dollars after taxes. How far away IS this place?

I think I'm missing something here. Are you working part time or minimum wage or something? Gas isn't even 5 dollars a gallon, and most cars today get 30 miles to the gallon even on bad roads. Even if you only got 20 miles to the gallon and gas is somehow 5 dollars a gallon where you live, you'd have to drive 30 miles and only work for a single hour before you broke even. I'm sure I'm missing something so if anyone knows please help me understand
