The wagon

Today, after much coaxing, I finally got my roommate to loosen up and have a couple of beers with me and my friends. It was only later in the evening that he admitted the real reason he hadn't wanted to drink: he's an alcoholic and had been sober for six months, until now. FML

NO MEANS NO!! Why couldnt you just listen??

Why all the you deserved it's? How is this the OP's fault? The friend could have just told the OP they were on the wagon. Sounds to me like the friend wanted to come off wagon...

Drinking alcohol is a ******* terrible thing to get somebody to do in the first place; you shouldn't force anyone to guzzle down poison with you just because it's the "cool" thing to do... so yes, it's a "YDI."

People are allowed to have their secrets. I know that if I were a recovering alcoholic, I wouldn't wanna go around and tell anybody. Having an addiction that's bad for you is embarrassing

You should have just stopped bitching about going out for drinks! Just let him be !

I agree he should have just let his roommate do what he wanted.

YDI, no one should force ANYONE to drink alcahol, not even encorage it. Especially if they keep rejecting it. Just ask once, and no is NO.

Just ask once? So a second offering is a gun to the head?

97 think before you speak. Badgering and pressuring someone to drink after they say "no" is extremely disrespectful and immature.

I know you couldn't have known he was a recovering alcoholic, but you still shouldn't pressure people to drink alcohol. I hope he pukes on you mid-hangover.

If your friend doesn't want to drink , then you should automatically assume there's a reason behind it . Even if you don't know what it is , maybe YOU should chill and back the **** off

He should have said that in the first place. But I hope you can help him out.

This isn't a FML for you it's an FML for your roommate

OP, in case the other comments didn't make this clear: "much coaxing" is bullying. It doesn't matter why you did it or how you spin it, bullying is not right. Learn to take no for an answer, politely.

How is much coaxing bullying? It's peer pressure but that isn't bullying.
