Today, I turned 25. I'm single, still living at home and doing an unpaid internship in an industry I have no interest in, because it was the only accepted application after 6 months of unemployment. The daily 45-minute drive means I'm losing money every week for being "employed" with a PhD. FML

Today, like every day, I scrolled through my social media feeds, seeing happy couples, people buying houses and landing their dream jobs. I, on the other hand, am a single 23 year-old man in a dead end job, who still lives with his parents. FML

Today, I had to stop going to university with 2 years left because my parents feel it's not the right course for me. I am 23 years-old, living with my parents, $2 to my name and no job. FML

Today, I've come to terms that I'm only living to work. I'm going to be 25, no friends, never had any experience with women. Been trying all year to meet someone, hasn't worked out at all. Dead end job, school did nothing for me. I literally just exist to work, and have no happy memories at all. I give up. FML

Wasted youth

Today, I’m 25 years-old. I was unattractive in high school and college. In the last two years I’ve glown up. Also, rent, gas, and food have all gone up in price. I can’t afford dates and I've had to work weekend nights at every job since I was 18. I hate these “rich kids” my age. FML

Today, I realized that even though I was an honor student throughout school, and considered the golden child who was going to go far in life, all I've accomplished a year after graduation is becoming an unemployed single mother still living with my parents. FML

End student debt

Today, I'm in a US college. I could've gone into a trade or internship, but no one listened. Now, while my parents brag to their friends that their child has a degree, I'll probably be spending the rest of life in crippling debt, sleeping on the side of the road, and begging strangers for table scraps. FML

Today, I’m 24. I can either be employed and have money, but having to work weekend nights and have scattered days off, or I can be unemployed and not have money to go out enjoy my city. I haven’t had a weekend to myself since high school. FML

I'm sorry things haven't been working out lately, OP. Hopefully you have support from family and friends, and who knows, maybe the connections you make in your internship will somehow help you in the future - even just as references. Best of luck to you!

Well, he is the problem. Because he is the only thing that can be changed within his lifetime. He could keep complaining how the world doesn't work the way he'd expect it to for the rest of his life, and it would take him nowhere. Also - having a PhD to me means that he spent, a lot of time studying some field. It doesn't mean that the field is worthwhile, and guarantees employment(I'm looking at you international relations, and philologies). Either way, if he went as far as to get a PhD then I'd expect him to continue his career as an academic. BSc is usually enough to work in field. And finally: 25 is still young. There's no shame in living with your parents at 25, and not having a career. It's today's economy. Especially if you spent your time getting a degree rather than work experience. Many of my friends have the same problems.

"continue as an academic." Yes, because it's that simple! Chances are OP tried to do that and it didn't happen because it is extremely hard to get a job in academia.

#32 Are you kidding? Teachers are starting to get big wage increases to keep them around because there's currently a shortage of teachers. I don't know if college professors are having the same thing, but right now a teaching job is definitely not one of the hardest fields to get in to (in the US, anyway).
