End student debt

Today, I'm in a US college. I could've gone into a trade or internship, but no one listened. Now, while my parents brag to their friends that their child has a degree, I'll probably be spending the rest of life in crippling debt, sleeping on the side of the road, and begging strangers for table scraps. FML

Today, after several long years, a lot of debt, and two great degrees from a top university, I had to move back in with my parents, because no matter where I look, I can't find a job. FML

Today, I am one year away from getting a university degree. Unfortunately, my parents just kicked me out because I wouldn't drop out and work for free at our family's gas station. I'm now broke, homeless, and have no way to pay for school. FML

Today, I had to stop going to university with 2 years left because my parents feel it's not the right course for me. I am 23 years-old, living with my parents, $2 to my name and no job. FML

Today, I realized that even though I was an honor student throughout school, and considered the golden child who was going to go far in life, all I've accomplished a year after graduation is becoming an unemployed single mother still living with my parents. FML

Today, it's my 37th birthday. I was an honor student in high school, went to a top university, accruing a bunch of debt, and got trapped working jobs I hate. All because my teachers told me I was too smart for state school. The drug addicts I went to high school with live a more stable life than I do. FML

Today, I am jobless after graduation. Ironic, since when I started college with my education degree, I was congratulated, told of the teacher shortage in my state, and how quickly I would be able to find a job. Three years in, the economy tanks, and the state issues a teacher hiring freeze. FML

Today, I found out that the money I spent on a very specific degree was wasted, because apparently, I don't qualify for a job at the place that told me I had to have that degree. FML

Today, I left for college. I spent hundreds of dollars on clothes, bedding and other things. After packing my entire closet and everything else I needed, I left only to have to head back home. My dad forgot to pay the first semesters tuition. He said "Oh well, you would have failed out anyway." FML

Today, I was offered a job that pays far more than I expected, being a high school senior. My parents decided they aren't letting me take the job, saying I should enjoy my childhood. They're also not paying for my college, which is why I was looking for work in the first place. FML

Send them the bill. They wanted you to go to college, they can pay for it. Conversely, you could drop out to do what you really want to do.

Umm.... If you are in college you are 18. So it's not your parents fault you didn't have what it takes to stand up to them and do what you wanted in life.

I was going to say that if you got a degree in something worthwhile and avoided excessive debt, it would pay off in the end. Them I saw that you were in Bloomington, and while IU and Bloomington are pretty, I have never met someone who went there as an undergrad and got a marketable degree. I quite literally knew a guy there triple majoring and none of the 3 had the slightest job prospects. I think it was Philosophy, Art History and Literature (and he didn’t want to teach.)

It's weird that skilled labor isn't the direction parents send their kids. I went college but I'm paying contractors more than I make in a week for a day of their time in labor cost alone. Sure is hard on your body but at $1,500+ a day they can retire young.

College ain't that bad, average BA graduate has 32k education debt and makes 64k a year. I don't make amazing money but I'm glad to be out of callcenters and retail jobs.
