Today, both my mom and dad agreed I basically ruined their life by existing. They weren’t even trying to be mean, they just casually mentioned that their lives were brilliant before me, then after I was born everything turned to shit and they’ve been miserable ever since. FML

Today, I tried to confront my parents with the fact that they're almost certainly going to outlive me unless I radically change my lifestyle, and that I needed their assistance to help me stay on track. I only realized after my impassioned speech that they were ignoring me the whole time. FML

Today, my shrink diagnosed me as severely depressive, due to a lot of stress and yells at home. After the session, my parents argued about whose fault it was and then went on to yell at me for being depressive and wasting their money. FML

Today, I've finally accepted that my parents do not love me. They constantly do things that I hate, then casually remark to other people, "I think he's mad at me now." They also know my hearing is insanely hypersensitive, yet they're still obnoxiously loud for no apparent reason all the time. FML

So something that gets advised a lot in narcissistic parents’ forums that I think is super useful advice for you here: grey rocking. Avoid interacting with the problem people where possible. If you must talk to them (such as family gatherings for extended relatives you want to keep in touch with), keep it brief and only about the topic at hand. If you absolutely must interact with them for an extended conversation, keep your answers limited to as few words as possible and communicate in as boring and factual a way possible. The goal here is to try and make the problem people lose interest. Crapstirrers are gonna stir but you can still deal with it for better or worse. Whatever method for dealing with your family you pick though, I hope that you can find peace with yourself.
