Today, I heard my fiancé tell his friend that he's working on Sunday. Which is my birthday. The birthday I don't even get a party for because of Covid. My only plan was to be with him and my BFF. He says he didn't think to take the day off, and now there's "probably not enough time to get coverage." He's the manager. FML

Today, it's my birthday. My husband said he had to work today and “rain checked” my birthday celebration for “god knows when, because I’m so busy. I’ll let you know.” A couple of months ago it was his female work bestie’s birthday and he got her a cake, balloon, flowers, and requested time off to take her out for lunch. FML

Today, it's my birthday. My boyfriend’s birthday is a month before mine. I'd spent my birthday savings on his, but he told me that we couldn’t do anything for mine because, “I didn’t plan or organize better.” FML

Today, my friend canceled plans the day before the event, after planning to go together for over a month. He said he needed to work, which would be understandable, if his only job wasn’t for Uber where he literally sets his own hours. It’s too late to find another friend to go with. FML

Today, my boss informed me that I'll have to work all weekend to finish a project that's due on Monday. This wouldn't be so bad, except for the fact that my ex-girlfriend is getting married on Saturday, and I was supposed to be in the wedding party. FML

Today, it was my birthday. I spent a pleasant day with one of my best friends, then I spent four hours in the emergency room because my husband broke his foot while working. We're both self-employed, so production is going to fall 6 weeks behind. FML

the fact that he's the manager will make it even harder for him to get coverage. he probably didn't think to take off not because he doesn't care about you but because many adults don't bother with their birthday so he didn't even think about it

Never expect your partner to be a mind reader. If you didn't tell him you wanted him to take the day off, you can't expect him to KNOW you wanted him to take the day off. Stop pouting and make birthday plans for his day off... but TELL HIM. In the meantime, have a girls' day with your friend.

you probably should have given him a heads up as to what you wanted. I'm sure he isn't a mind reader. I'm sure he would have taken the day off had you only asked him to. 🙄

Exactly. Getting coverage as a Manger is WAY harder than it is for a regular employee, as there are usually certain responsibilities that only a manager is authorized to perform, and there are fewer of them.
