Fresh

By MalariaFree - 14/06/2009 11:08 - Uganda

Today, I went to a hospital in Uganda, where I'm working with an NGO for the summer. I had a high fever and other symptoms of malaria. They gave me a test, and I don't have malaria. I'm now however sick from the water they gave me to wash down a medication to reduce fever. FML

Well, think of all the people in Uganda your trying to help.. This is their daily reality, for you its only one summer, they live under these horrible conditions. FYL of course, especially since your trying to help people, but FTL, **** their lives still a bit more.

FYL, but good for you to try and help :). I'm mexican (born in the usa) and when I was younger and went to mexico to visit my grandparents I'd drink the water and have no problems. I guess stuff like that is a genetic immunity

I hope you get well soon. Stay safe!

i was trying to do that this summer, didn't happen

#34: I wonder if it is. When I was younger, I went to Eastern Europe, and drank water from hoses and stuff. It wasn't until I was 18 until I learned I wasn't technically supposed to drink the water there, but I never got sick... If I go to other places, though, I follow all the water restrictions. I don't have quite the resistance other places as I do back in the "homeland." OP: A definite FYL there, man. (Though, some of the medicines they give might mess your stomach up, too.) :(

LOL instead montezumas revenge (shakkazulus revenge) LOL dnt drink water in other countries bro

While helping the poor people in Africa is commendable...you should have known better than to drink unbottled, unfiltered water, you could have easily gotten cholera and died.

Generally, your not supposed to drink water in a place where your body may react to the peculiar chemicals in the water supply.

I'd love to be encouraged by someone doing this kind of work in a country that needs it ... but then you go and complain for getting a small case of what the residents have to face everyday? Get over yourself. Find yourself extremely lucky that you have a computer and internet connection in a struggling country. YDI, not for drinking the water but for moaning about getting introduced to Ugandian life.
