Bonding moment

Today, I wanted my son to take a break from his comic books and be more active, so I converted our big backyard into a home-sized football field, hoping this would motivate him to finally get into sports. While I had him running drills, I heard him grumble, "This is why mom left you." FML

If he doesn’t like sports, you’re just driving a wedge between the two of you. Why don’t you try learning about what he DOES like to do instead of having him run “drills”?

Drills are a terrible way to get into sports. Let them play badly at first and then explain how they can improve with drills. Did you wife leave you because your drills were boring?

You clearly deserved it. Learn to support your son and his interests instead of forcing him to be someone he's not

As others have suggested, how about you find something HE likes to do instead of punishing him by making him run drills. All that will do will ensure he'll hate all exercise and he'll hate spending time with you.

Sounds like the fat gym teachers that think I’ll like running in 30 degrees F while they drink coffee and eat donuts inside. I never had a gym teacher that can see their toes. And boy did I see the principal a lot due to me pointing it out…

Also, try larping! It’s fun, playful and gets you active. Just look at all the people that go to geeky conventions (like me with my wife!). They’ll get active with the right motivation. You’ll walk 5 miles/day if you go to an anime convention, no problem. And have a bit of fun too!
