Welcome…
Today, I met my mother's deeply religious fiancé for the first time. His response upon seeing me was to look me square in the eye and say, "You'll need to take out that nose stud or I'm afraid you'll not be welcome in our home." FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I flew home to visit my parents. We haven't seen each other in two years, I've gotten a few tattoos done since, and I knew they wouldn't approve, so I bought whole new outfits that covered everything and looked professional. When I got there, the first thing my mom says to me is, "Is that a nose ring!?" FML
Today, while having dinner with my girlfriend's very religious parents, her mother called me a heathen and said she'd convert me one day. She wasn't kidding. FML
Today, I mustered up the courage to visit my estranged mega fundamentalist father to hopefully mend our relationship. The first thing he did was insult me for not having a beard, and call my wife and daughters whores because they weren't wearing long skirts or dresses. FML
Today, my mom got drunk and started crying at my after-wedding party, after promising she'd behave herself. She thinks my husband is an awful person who'll drag me into a life of sin, all because he has a tattoo and an ear piercing. FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's mom for the first time. I introduced myself and went to shake her hand. She looked me up and down and said, "I don't shake hands with whores." FML
Today, my stepfather-to-be yelled at me, insisting I take my nose piercing out, because it will "ruin the wedding photos" since I'm a bridesmaid. It's a tiny diamante stud, no bigger than a small pinhead. He then went on a rant about how I need to respect his authority in the family. I'm 25. FML
Today, my fiancé's mother gave me a beautiful cross necklace to wear for my wedding. I'm Jewish. FML
Today, my mother, her fiancé, and I were having dinner together. My mother was joking that she wasn't sure she could hold him down, as he used to "get around." She turned to talk to the waiter and my future step-father looked me up and down and winked. FML
Today, I met my biological mother for the first time. I also found out from her husband that she has her nipples and nether regions pierced. FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's parents for the first time. His mom stared at me throughout dinner before finally blurting out, "I'm sorry, I can't get past the fact that you look just like his ex!" It turns out I do. FML

I don't see what your nose stud has to do with religion, this guy sounds like a bit of an ass!

Nose piercings are actually a religious thing when it comes to....Muslims or Hindus, I'm trying to remember which. When a woman is married (in one of those two religions) she pierces her nose, learned this from a psych doctor after I said I liked her stud. Maybe the Godwad knows that and doesn't want Muslim/Hindi influences in the house. Or just considers body mod to be the work of the devil. I have a labret and a pentacle tattoo, I LOVE debating this stuff with Christians because the Bible DOES say not to mark or scar the flesh, but that's when in honour of the dead. Pagans (like myself) traditionally did that, so of course hypersensitive Godwads would try and forbid it. Remember, we call dance naked and covered in animal blood around a bonfire and get wasted and have nasty nasty orgies to hail Satan! ;D

He's using his religion as an excuse -- he's just ashamed that you are a hipster conformist who mindlessly does whatever the zeitgeist of the herd dictates to them.

And what about the part of his religion that teaches that a person's character is more important than their outward appearance? (Or doesn't his religion have that?)

sounds like you need to have a talk with your mom about the kind of people she finds acceptable to allow around her children.

Piercings are disgusting and I will never date someone who has them

Your mom's marrying a jerk. Nothing gives him the right to try and control you. If I were in your situation, I'd go out of my way to spite him.

Tell him its a nose stud and doesn't hinder any potential relationship with a deity. Tell him to lose his watch, chain if he wears one and wear better fitting pants because that belt has metal on it, which isn't allowed.

Furthermore he should not wear clothes made from two different materials mixed together.

I hope he didn't say that in the very house you call home. If so I would have told him to get the freak out of your house.

Exactly - I'd be like "Excuse me, but do you own this house? Have you been living here as long as I have? No? Then shut up, because it's not your house. It's my mom's and it's HER choice."

And did your mother have nothing to say about this?
