Today, weeks after I paid extra for faster shipping, I received confirmation that my paperwork for overseas voting has been received. Too bad the deadline in my state was yesterday. Thanks, Postal Service, for the consistency of your failures. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
No time to mess around
Today, I learned that I'm not registered to vote. Apparently filling out the form and signing it in the county clerk's office was no guarantee and I was supposed to follow up until I received mail confirmation. It's now too late to fix. FML
Rushed
Today, I rushed to the post office to mail an important document for the study abroad program that I'd applied for, which was due in a few days. Just as the envelope slipped out of my hand and into the mail box, I caught a glimpse of the upper right corner where there was supposed to be a stamp. FML
Today, I've been waiting for a very important document in the mail. It has been two months. I reviewed my application and realized I forgot to put a mailing address down. FML
Red tape
Today, I have a time sensitive package from another country that has been sitting in customs for a week. USPS tells me that it’s customs’ responsibility. Customs tells me they processed it and it’s USPS’s responsibility. I can’t fucking win, can I? FML
Today I found out that paying $40 for next-day shipping doesn't ensure that you'll receive the item the next day or even the next week. I assumed it was my fault for ordering too late into the holiday season. Turns out they never shipped it. When I finally received it 10 days late, it was the wrong item. FML
Today, I noticed that even though I got all my Christmas shopping done a month earlier than usual, I forgot to put anything in the mail. FML
Today, after waiting well over a month for a work visa in Germany that should only have taken 3 weeks to come through, I finally received my long-awaited answer. Unfortunately, that answer was "We lost your paperwork." FML
Today, my new mailbox key finally arrived. Not at the front door as I requested, but in the mailbox. FML
Today, I mailed out a college application that is going to another country. I paid $250 for the application and $11 for shipping. I just realized that I forgot to sign the bottom of the application. FML
Free money
Today, after waiting 7 months to get my amended tax return refund, I was informed today that not only did they mail it to the wrong address, the person who they mailed it to cashed the check. FML

Could be deliberate. I'd report this if I were you. There have been previous cases of places trying to deliberately avoid postal votes because they know which way they'll go.

Comment moderated for rule-breaking.
There's only so much the postal service can do, were you unable to send the forms earlier?

Overseas shipping can be tricky and varies from country to country. It's very possible.

Hi: OP here. I found the receipt the post office here in Germany gave me, and I looked it up online so I know where to direct my anger; it made it to the US in just a couple of days, and then USPS dropped the ball. I swear, my name must be on a list of special people whose mail gets used to prop up wobbly tables in American post offices or something. This isn't the first time something like this has happened to me with mail service. I almost lost my first job abroad a few years ago because they messed up the delivery of my visa paperwork.

OP, you should use your receipt and verification of delivery as proof to write a letter of appeal! This is a special case and they SHOULD be willing to look at it - regardless of the deadline. Try it out!

It's a little too close to the election to consider an appeal.

We lowly serfs must toil in the turnip fields of our overlords. Our ballots are burned in their hearths over which they roast the rest of our rights.

They may very likely go by the postmarked date, so you could be okay! Best of luck, OP!

Must be voting for Trump

You paid to vote? Man, I can't be bothered to waste time on it, much less money.
blackfire29 7
Well technically, I paid not to vote.

Then you've got absolutely no right to bitch about the outcome Tuesday. It literally takes about a minute.

Not voting is pretty much the worst case of abuse of a privilege. Women and minorities fought tooth and nail for this constitutional right. And in present day, certain groups in some countries are STILL denied the right to vote. Plus in general, to have a say in something so pivotal in one's country is not something to be taken for granted. Also yeah, if I could personally slap people who bitch about election results after not voting, I'd be on it like butter on toast. Talk about deserving it.

The deadline is generally when the envelope is postmarked (sent) not when it arrives... so it should be fine...
