Today, we got the IQ test results back, which show our daughter is on the high end of the genius scale. This confirms what my wife and I have long feared: our 6-year-old is FAR smarter than we are. No wonder she wins all the arguments we have. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my 11-year-old son and I took an IQ test for a laugh. To be honest, I've often suspected that I may have some form of mental retardation, but I didn't expect to get a score of 79, while he got one of 114. FML
Outsmarted
Today, my son is smarter than average, almost genius level, and he has now reached an age where not only does he question me at every turn, he actually out-argues me 90% of the time and I can’t do anything about it because technically he’s right and I’m wrong. FML
Alexa, play "Guess I'm Dumb" by Glen Campbell
Today, I took a legitimate IQ test and got a score of 80. My parents both have IQ scores above Einstein’s. FML
High potential
Today, my youngest was recognized as a genius. My older two are now upset because they don’t think it’s fair and my husband is moaning because he thinks we’re now going to be stuck raising Sheldon Cooper. FML
Proud dad
Today, my husband, who is proud of his 155 IQ, is depressed our son is becoming a typical football jock with an IQ only just into the triple digits. He even thinks I must have had an affair, because no way could someone as smart as him have produced such a blockhead with tattoos. FML
Today, I took an online IQ test, even though I knew they give everyone unrealistically high scores. My score was 73. FML
Harsh
Today, my dad took my son out of his will, so I confronted him. Turns out he has a new policy of “not rewarding dumb behaviour.” He’s willing to put him back in the will, if he ever scores over 120 on an IQ test. I love my son, but he’s a happy goldfish, 120 is just never happening. FML
Today, my mom was taking an online IQ test. To the question "On which continent is Canada located?" she responded "Antarctica." If intelligence is genetic, I'm screwed. FML
So do some adults…
Today, I discovered that apparently my six-year-old daughter actually believes that the United States is the only country with advanced technology. FML
Wild Child
Today, my daughter's quirkiness and eccentricities may have gone to a whole new level when her school faculty described her as "no stranger to LSD". She's 5. FML

Being a genius isn't everything it's cracked up to be she'll have a lot of issues with ostracization and alienation especially from teachers and peers you may want to look into getting her into a school that specializes in high intelligence children, it'll be better for her in the long run. 😊

Why would you FEAR that your daughter would be smarter, this way she might be able to do something amazing with her life instead of complaining that her daughter is smarter than her

I understand because my younger brother’s somewhat similar; he probably wasn’t quite genius level at 6, but still gifted and AAP, getting perfect test scores without trying, etc. It can be a little hard because it’s difficult to challenge such intellectually strong children and sometimes there’s social implications, but I would mainly see this as a good thing because your kid has a lot of potential and grounds for achievements. Congratulations

... and it's an FML why? I have a newborn, and I would LOVE to be in the same situation you are in. If you think otherwise -- you are an idiot, sorry.

I don't get the feeling you're actually sorry

That's what people say when they don't know much about what's it like to be "gifted" as some doctors put it. Trust me, with the world we're leaving in, it's a freaking nightmare. Everybody think it's about quantity ("being more") but it's actually about quality. Our brain is wired differently. We are more, yep. If you think Gen Y is a pain in the ass, seaking for meaning, purpose, transparency, wanting to change the world etc, you can multiply it by 10 and add high sensitivity and self-awareness that make us feel like sh*t. Yep, as some might say "be careful what you wish for".

My kid is 1.5. I plan on building “do as I say not as I do” from the beginning.

How is that? Even Einstein couldn’t defeat the “Because I said so” lemma.

There should be no arguments. It should be, "I'm the parent, now go to your room." She's smart enough to learn to respect you if you actually learn to put your foot down.

Although this is a good thing, I understand why this can be an fml. My brother is also the same and my parents have faced many more challenges raising him than the rest of his siblings. Even from a young age he was able to get what he wanted through manipulation or persuasion and sometimes it felt as if he didn't respect them as much as he should because of that. Raising a child who may be smarter than you are makes it feel like you're losing some sense of authority in a parent/ child relationship, so it's important to find the right balance between parenting and advising for example. Sorry for the long comment but I thought some people might want an insight as to why this may be an fml at all.

Your brother sounds more like a sociopath than a genius.

I don’t know, sociopaths tend to be very smart at the same time

I fail to see how this is a bad thing
