Today, the mother of one of my students bitched me out about her son's poor grades. He lazes around all day, paying no attention and being a constant nuisance. But, she says it's not his fault, and demands that I give him better grades so he won't get "self-esteem" issues. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Real Housewives coded
Today, just because my mum's friend's son got better grades than me, she's now treating me like shit. You know what lady? His mom is way better than you too! She didn't attempt to kill her child half a dozen times, and you don't see me complaining about it all day long. FML
Nice parents you've got there…
Today, one of my fourth-graders came up to me and asked, "Can you please not put my test grades in the weekly folders? My mom likes to get mad when I get below a 90." FML
Pampered
Today, I had to place a call home because a student was late every single day. The mom rudely replied, “Yeah well she doesn’t really like getting up in the mornings. Can’t you just wait and start class like 30 minutes later?” Now I have to have a conference with this spoiled brat and her mother. FML
Student becomes the master
Today, my son's "favorite" teacher went on a tirade criticizing my "awful" parenting. About two months ago, my son got her fired after he reported her to the principal for forcing him to miss out on lunch to finish a project. Apparently, that wasn't the first time she did something like that. FML
Narcissist Mom
Today, my coworker was going on and on about how her son was nice and got good grades but that she needed to find him a therapist because he's too shy in class, and how she didn't want her friends to think badly of her. She's a counselor. I sat in silence for almost an hour, because all I could think was, "WTF? Poor kid." FML
Today, I was listening to my son's teacher gossip about students whilst in the grocery store. I was thrilled when she described my son as "A model student". However, she then went on to say, "Which is surprising considering that his parents are trailer trash." FML
Grades go both ways
Today, I was scolding my 8 year-old son because he was getting bad grades in school. I told him that he should get straight "A"s like his friend Ceejay. He told me that comparing him to Ceejay was unfair. When I asked why, he said, "Because his dad is actually smart." FML
Today, my son was smart enough to hack the school's computers to change his midterm, but isn't smart enough to actually keep his grades up. FML
The root
Today, I got a lecture from my mother about how bad my stress has been, how I have to treat myself better and do something with my life. She still doesn't realize that most of the cause of my stress has been from her berating me about how stressed out I am. FML
Today, while discussing my grades with my mother, she told me that when she was my age she was dumb but hardworking, and my dad was lazy but very smart. She then added, "You managed to get the worst out of each of us." FML

I hate parents that think their kids do no wrong and blame it on everyone else. It's not the teachers problem if he's a little shit that won't do his work and pay attention. There's only so much the teacher can do.That mother should take him home and wear his little ass out.

I think she needs to follow up a bit more...in the context of her son's work habits...

Well, at least you can say "I can't do that, the policy is quite clear on how grades are earned, this is the grade your child has earned, and it is only his actions that can change that."

I was this kid in a way. I was bored with the work. I could do it easily enough, but I just didn't feel challenged or interested in doing the work for class. I got in trouble all through school because of it. My grades were like a roller coaster; good for the first 1/3 of the semester bad through the center and good to the last 1/3. My father would get informed or catch me doing badly and set up meeting with my teachers. They would tell him that I just sit around and generally did anything I could EXCEPT the work assigned. I failed a course due to this and had to take a remedial course to get a passing grade. My father didn't take that well at all. One day a teacher said to the entire class, "Don't do problem #, it is too difficult for you and I haven't taught you the necessary material." I saw this as challenge and did the problem. The teacher saw it and the rest of my work. It was flawless as I had studied the material and taught myself how to do it, and this intrigued him. He sat me down with my father and had a talk with me about my work and my ethic and I literally told him, "Your work bores me and I don't want to do it." He decided to start giving me work that was ahead of the other students. He made me think I was "better." The work was more challenging and I found myself enjoying it. The moral of this story? Screw the parent, make the kid enjoy the challenge of the assignment. If you did all you could then go home knowing that and don't sweat it op. I went on to take all AP courses and skip the first year of my college general education courses. You aren't at fault and the student is the responsible party. Do what you can and move on.

Maybe her son wouldn't be the way he is if she didn't fail as a parent. God forbid anyone admits that they or their children do anything wrong...

this is the type of parent who demands that all kids get a participation trophy in sports
