Today, the mother of one of my students bitched me out about her son's poor grades. He lazes around all day, paying no attention and being a constant nuisance. But, she says it's not his fault, and demands that I give him better grades so he won't get "self-esteem" issues. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Real Housewives coded
Today, just because my mum's friend's son got better grades than me, she's now treating me like shit. You know what lady? His mom is way better than you too! She didn't attempt to kill her child half a dozen times, and you don't see me complaining about it all day long. FML
Nice parents you've got there…
Today, one of my fourth-graders came up to me and asked, "Can you please not put my test grades in the weekly folders? My mom likes to get mad when I get below a 90." FML
Pampered
Today, I had to place a call home because a student was late every single day. The mom rudely replied, “Yeah well she doesn’t really like getting up in the mornings. Can’t you just wait and start class like 30 minutes later?” Now I have to have a conference with this spoiled brat and her mother. FML
Student becomes the master
Today, my son's "favorite" teacher went on a tirade criticizing my "awful" parenting. About two months ago, my son got her fired after he reported her to the principal for forcing him to miss out on lunch to finish a project. Apparently, that wasn't the first time she did something like that. FML
Narcissist Mom
Today, my coworker was going on and on about how her son was nice and got good grades but that she needed to find him a therapist because he's too shy in class, and how she didn't want her friends to think badly of her. She's a counselor. I sat in silence for almost an hour, because all I could think was, "WTF? Poor kid." FML
Today, I was listening to my son's teacher gossip about students whilst in the grocery store. I was thrilled when she described my son as "A model student". However, she then went on to say, "Which is surprising considering that his parents are trailer trash." FML
Grades go both ways
Today, I was scolding my 8 year-old son because he was getting bad grades in school. I told him that he should get straight "A"s like his friend Ceejay. He told me that comparing him to Ceejay was unfair. When I asked why, he said, "Because his dad is actually smart." FML
Today, my son was smart enough to hack the school's computers to change his midterm, but isn't smart enough to actually keep his grades up. FML
The root
Today, I got a lecture from my mother about how bad my stress has been, how I have to treat myself better and do something with my life. She still doesn't realize that most of the cause of my stress has been from her berating me about how stressed out I am. FML
Today, while discussing my grades with my mother, she told me that when she was my age she was dumb but hardworking, and my dad was lazy but very smart. She then added, "You managed to get the worst out of each of us." FML

Hey you get what you give in this life. Apparently his grades are reflecting just that! I hope you don't give in to this mother. She's trying to be a bully for her son and he's never going to know how to interact with people later in life but by being a bully!

So it's your fault that her son is about as useful to society as a bag of dog shit?

I think you should write her a report card with one subject, Parenting, Fail

God, please don't give in. Some of the best teachers are the ones who don't give in and he won't learn anything if you do

just make him work harder, punish him when he's lazy or annoying.

If say that confidence without achievement to support it IS a self esteem issue.

sorry op, this child's mother sounds like a real piece of work, I'm guessing if anything gives him self-esteem issues its going to be her. forgive me if I'm wrong but if she is truly worried why doesn't she sit down and try to help and encourage him to do better in school rather then causing a big up roar over something that could be prevented of she put forth and effort to help him and not show him that its OK to lie and cheat his way through things. its sad honestly. the children who struggle with things such as bullying ect that are much harder to prevent are the Ines who usually go without the help they need because they are too afraid to ask for help or to tell an adult but then the ones who just don't want to apply themselves to their school work and could care less are the ones that the parents are coming in to "take action" and take it out on the teachers because they don't want to have to deal with helping their children at home.

This is the kind of thing that puts people off of a career in teaching.
