Today, on our way home, my cousin, step dad and I noticed a man trying to kidnap a young girl. As good citizens, we called the police so they could catch the man. Nine police cars showed up at my house because dispatch told them we were the kidnappers. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my father told me to take the car and get some groceries. An hour and a half later, coming home with the groceries, I see the cops all around my house because my dad had called them, thinking that I had run away and stolen the car. FML
Today, I almost got kidnapped. Again. FML
Today, I was driving to the local market with my son. We approached a vehicle that looked just like my fiancé's. My son peered out his window and said, "Mommy, daddy's getting kidnapped!" It seems he was being 'kidnapped' by his new girlfriend. FML
Close shave
Today, the police posted a description of the car of a child abductor. As everyone slowed down to read the billboard, I realized that the car's description and license plate were very similar to mine. After getting death stares from passengers, I got pulled over. Twice. FML
Today, I got lost trying to find the hospital my sister was giving birth in. I stopped at a store to call my mom for directions. A cop pulled up beside me and knocked loudly on my window asking me to get out. The store had been robbed and I am now a suspect. FML
Today, I was driving my little sister to school. She really didn't wanna go and was throwing a tantrum in the car. When we stopped at a red light, my sister notices a police man giving a ticket to another driver. She rolled down her window and screamed "Help me! I'm being kidnapped by a murderer!" FML
Today, I noticed a car following me all the way to my house. It was dark so I got really nervous and called the police. The person got out of the car. It was my mom. FML
Confess!
Today, I hit a parked car and fled because I was so scared. Four hours later, the cops showed up at my house so I broke down crying confessing everything. Turns out, they weren't there about the car I hit. They were alerting me about the string of burglaries in my neighborhood recently. FML
Today, as I was driving to work, I witnessed a kid apparently getting jumped. Being a good citizen, I got out and started yelling at them. I ended up alongside the kid in the hospital. FML
Never try this at home
Today, a bunch of cops showed up at my house demanding to see my wife to make sure she was OK. Turns out my insane out-of-state daughter swatted me, calling 911 to tell them I had tied up my wife, and been impersonating her for a week. FML

How did they mix this up from “We’re witnessing a kidnapping” to “we’re kidnapping a young girl, come get us”?

Because you aren’t SUPPOSED to step in, unless there’s zero chance of injury. It’s easily possible OP would have escalated things to the point of someone getting killed.

Look, just let the girl out of the basement or lead them to her corpse and be done with it!

Good enough to call the police, but apparently to lazy to step in...

If that was my sister or niece or cousin, then I would want someone to step in and ensure their safety. Why would anyone downvote this? Imagine that was you being kidnapped and people witnessed it yet did nothing to stop it. It's heartbreaking to think that could be the difference between that little girl seeing her family again or not.

Depending on where in the world they are, that shit is dangerous.

@evilplatypus "zero chance of injury" says who? I once defied a guy hitting his girlfriend in the subway, everybody around watching somewhere else like nothing was happening. He tried to hit me too, she stoped him. I didn't care, I was ready.

So, OP and family call the police to report a kidnapper. Commentors... 1) assume OP and family didnt interfere in anyway, despite the fact that in a short character limits OP might very well HAVE interfered but focused on the FML part, not the "i'm awesome" 2) assume OP and family have a duty to put themselves at any and all risk to stop a crime in process because their lives are apparantly worthless compared to a kid 3) lambast OP and family based only on knowing that they tried to help a child
