Today, my uncle got me a debit card and put $1000 on it for my Christmas present. However, he forgot to activate the card. The receipt with the 14-digit activation code is in the garbage in Colorado. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I found out the gift card my friend gave me for Christmas actually has no money on it and was never purchased in the first place. FML
Today, I canceled my ATM card, because it had been lost. Then I found it. Then I found out I can't reactivate it, because I asked for a replacement card. I'm from CA, and I'm in Mexico with only 20 bucks. FML
Today, I found a gift card under my bed that I lost a few months ago for $400 to a store that went out of business last week. FML
Embezzlement
Today, I found the birthday card my grandma had mailed. Apparently, it contained a gift of $100. Too bad it was in my mom's trash can, opened, with no money. She told my grandma it must have gotten lost in the mail. FML
Today, I gave my friend a $5 VR set that I purchased from the dollar store for Christmas. I received a $60 gift card. Later, I realized I left the receipt in the package. FML
Today, I discovered my mom has been using my credit card to buy everyone's Christmas presents. FML
Debt
Today, after weeks of asking, I was finally given my debit card back from my parents. They’ve spent over $1000 and now I’m scared to know how much I have left. There was no mention of a reimbursement either. FML
Today, I got a birthday card in the mail from my aunt. I got all excited when I saw a cheque inside, but the cheque was addressed to the wrong name. Not only did my own aunt forget my name, I couldn't even bank the $60. FML
Surprise!
Today, my bank, being overly paranoid about fraud, declined my Christmas purchase on Amazon because I usually don't spend that much all at once. Instead of Amazon simply asking to try the card again, they instead switched to a different card in the wallet. Which would be fine, except it's a shared family account. FML
Today, I received a new debit card, so I cut the old one into pieces. I then picked up my remaining card, and realized I'd cut up the wrong one. FML

I think his life sucks more than yours.

Why moan? Just fix it. Think the bank doesn't have procedures in place for what has to be a common incident?

Boost has got it right. if anyone has ever used one of these, they know these gift card debit cards have a website on the back for activation. unless it's an actual checking account that the uncle opened for OP, which I doubt because that's a lot of work for a birthday present

So maybe tell him?

Maybe he can find the code when he gets back, or tell somebody who is still at his house? :o

$1000? you bitchy little bitch. you probably didn't deserve that, so quit crying. if he had that much to just 'give away', he can give you more.

How do you know he actually put $1000 in there? what if he just forgot to get you a present and got a card and made up that story? like that song: ai ya yai its christmas and i dont know what to do! i dont have a gift for YOU!

Yeah, that's annoying, but the bank can probably tell the card has been purchased but not activated.

So? How does that help? If the bank were willing to just activate a card by placing money on it, then there'd be no point in having an activation code.
marc_with_a_c 3
activation codes are there just to get them more money from the people who are stupid enough to forget to activate it.. seriously why else would there be one otherwise

Yep, the bank staff take free vacations all the time on money obtained this way. Best profit spinner ever. And I should know.

Unless he gave them to you, because you were in need.. I wouldn't call this an FML. You'll eventually get them, and this will have been a simple inconvenience. YLIA
