Today, I was accused of racism for mentioning that a Native American woman in my neighborhood is illiterate. She's a special needs adult waiting for an opening in a group home, I only mentioned she was illiterate because people couldn't figure it out and were upset that she couldn't read the notes they were leaving. Today, none of us had any idea that our grandfather was a huge racist until I brought my new girlfriend over to a family gathering, and he started yelling because she's Indian, some of the most disgusting racial slurs I’ve ever heard. We left when it looked like he might actually hit her. FML

There's nothing wrong with the name Cleveland Indians just like there's nothing wrong with the Washington Redskins. People need to relax. They're too sensitive. It's a name calm down.

I think you CAN be white and find something offensive that does not directly affect you. That's actually a good sign, it implies empathy and an ability to change things. But you CAN'T insist that people be offended by something you are offended by on their behalf.
