Today, I overheard my caucasian mother on the phone lamenting to a friend that her future grandchildren won’t “look American”. Any future grandchildren of hers would be half Lakota native. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I met my "grandson". Even though my son and his wife are both lily white, the child was clearly half-black. I pulled my son aside to have a word, but he said, "Her grandmother was black and she has recessive genes, it's really rare." I can't believe I raised this dumbass. FML
Today, my grandmother updated her will. Previously, it denied inheritance to family members with non-white spouses, and any mixed-raced children. Now it does the same with politically correct terminology. She then bragged about how accepting she is in front of my Korean husband and our daughter. FML
Today, my mother burst into tears when I told her I was engaged. They were not tears of joy, however. She was crying because although she insists she’s "not" racist, she was crying because none of her grandchildren would be "pure." My fiancé is black. FML
Today, my mother continued her lifelong habit of talking to anyone who isn't white in extremely slow, exaggerated "caveman" English. She insists that she isn't being racist, but rather is helping. FML
Today, while working at Kohl's this woman came up to me and asked if I was Native American, I said yes, she then says "Oh! I thought you guys went extinct." This is the country I live in. FML
Today, I found my 30 year-old sister-in-law's TikTok. All she posts on it is indigenous issues and goes on rants about how hard life is for her and her ancestors. She's white, but claims to be Blackfoot and "white passing." FML
Today, my grandmother called me in a fit of panic because her new neighbors are black. So is my fiancé, whom she is supposed to meet tomorrow. FML
Today, we had a substitute teacher. She was taking attendance and had trouble pronouncing my last name. When I corrected her, I heard her mutter under her breath about, “Goddamn Mexican immigrants…” I’m from Greek ancestry, born in the USA. FML
Today, and ever since she got pregnant, my girlfriend has been hinting that one of her great-grandfathers was black, so there’s a chance our son may be black too. I wasn’t suspicious before, but she has mentioned it so often I’m starting to think it’s less a great grandad and more a baby daddy issue. FML
Today, my racist grandmother was complaining that the new nurse at her nursing home is a black woman. I casually asked, "Is she cute?" I'm now out of the will. FML

I would have walked in said too bad you won't see them. My sister her mom is ridiculous about her granddaughter and great grandchildren. Who are from a mixed mom my sister is Romani and black, married a Filipino and had a daughter who was with a Japanese guy. They had two daughters. My niece barley speaks to her grandmother

Raising your children is so much more important than what a racist grandmother thinks. They are better off without that attitude in their life.

America is the biggest ethnic/racial melting pot in the entire world. Being mixed is pretty much about as "American" as one can look.(Disregarding the obvious fact that Lakota is also a native american tribe)

Technically, Native americans are the only "true" north americans if we speak in term of continent. "White" americans are europeans.

I imagine she'll get over it. It's got to be kind of weird though, up until this point I bet her whole lineage was Western European and going forward her grandkids won't have that identity. From here on out they'll be checking the minority box on applications, and her families history will be marginalized. Hopefully she's able to see it from the Lakota perspective, eventually. So they'll look half American, half European. Does she expect you to be able to change your DNA so you're native American as well? Seriously though, tell her to shut her racist mouth, or she'll never know what her grandkids look like.

If she wants a relationship with her grandkids, she's obviously got to get over it. What counts is that your children and grandchildren are happy and healthy.
