Today, my sister broke up with her boyfriend of 4 years because he hadn't "popped" the question. I've just spent the last 2 months helping him plan the perfect proposal. FML

Today, my sister called me and asked if my boyfriend of 3 years had proposed to me yet. And now the surprise is ruined. FML
Today, my sister, who has been seeing a guy for a year, got engaged. I've been dating my boyfriend for over 5 years and let out some not so subtle hints and he basically refused to propose. This is her second marriage in the time of my relationship. FML
Today, my girlfriend of 2 years broke up with me because I hadn't popped the question to her yet. For the last six months, I have been respectfully trying to convince her over protective father to give me his blessing. FML
Today, my boyfriend of two years asked his friend to propose to me for him, because he was too nervous to do it himself. FML
Today, after three years of dating, my boyfriend finally proposed. To my best friend. FML
Today, at my birthday party in an expensive sushi restaurant that I spent hundreds of dollars to reserve, my boyfriend of 3 years proposed… to my sister. She said yes. They’ve been secretly seeing each other for the past year. She just graduated high school this past summer. FML
Today, I'd been getting ready to hear my boyfriend's proposal, as his friends had told me he'd talked to them about planning it. He showed up at my house out of the blue… to tell me he's breaking up with me, only to find out he proposed to his ex hours later. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 4 years proposed to me. I said yes and he gave me an engagement ring. He immediately went to call his mom to tell her the happy news. After the phone call, he asked if he could return the ring because his mom needed money. FML
Today, I broke up with my boyfriend because I was tired of waiting for him to propose. It turns out he was going to propose and had the ring and everything, but I fucked it all up. FML
Today, my sister asked me if I was going to be getting married "for real" this time, because she didn't want to waste her money like she did on my previous engagement. The reason that one didn't work out in the first place is because she slept with my fiancé. FML

This isn't your fault, or the boyfriend's. Your sister is a selfish little bitch. She could have asked him if she was so impatient. By the way, if she really did want to marry him and spend the rest of her life with him, then why couldn't she wait a while longer? Obviously she didn't love him that much if she can just toss him aside like that over something stupid. He's better off without her.

I really do not understand how this is a FML??? Your sister should be on here saying "Today my sister told me that my boyfriend of four years was going to "pop the question". Unfortunatly I broke up with him because I didn't think he was serious about our relationship. FML"

Tell her. Not us. And BTW you both deserve it. Why the hell would you spend 2 months preparing the proposal? Come on! I'm not saying it cannot be a beautiful and romantic occasion, but 2 months is just ridiculous. How long are you going to plan the wedding? 10 years? And the honeymoon? Will you even get to it until retirement?

What is with some chicks thinking they “deserve” a wedding proposal? No one HAS to marry. Ever. FFS. Leave the little child to be alone then if she is going to act like that, she obviously isn’t ready to be in a committed relationship no less a marriage. Come on guys, let's be real. There's probably more behind this story, and I feel like I can empathize with the sister. Think about it. It took TWO MONTHS to "prepare" to propose? Sounds like the guy is not really sure he wants to make the commitment, and the girlfriend probably knew that after being with him for FOUR YEARS. Maybe she feels like the relationship is going no where, and she wants to go further. BUT her boyfriend is still putting around without wanting to progress. I think she could have brought the issue up with him before hand for clarification, BUT what if she did and he was still fumbling around not sure of what he wanted? It was probably in those two months that she figured out it wasn't going anywhere. And guess what? If they broke up and he REALLY wanted to marry her, he probably would have told her and they could have worked out this miscommunication. Sounds like the boyfriend may have even taken the break-up in stride, again not sure of what he really wanted.
