Today, my sister broke up with her boyfriend of 4 years because he hadn't "popped" the question. I've just spent the last 2 months helping him plan the perfect proposal. FML

Today, my sister called me and asked if my boyfriend of 3 years had proposed to me yet. And now the surprise is ruined. FML
Today, my sister, who has been seeing a guy for a year, got engaged. I've been dating my boyfriend for over 5 years and let out some not so subtle hints and he basically refused to propose. This is her second marriage in the time of my relationship. FML
Today, my girlfriend of 2 years broke up with me because I hadn't popped the question to her yet. For the last six months, I have been respectfully trying to convince her over protective father to give me his blessing. FML
Today, my boyfriend of two years asked his friend to propose to me for him, because he was too nervous to do it himself. FML
Today, after three years of dating, my boyfriend finally proposed. To my best friend. FML
Today, at my birthday party in an expensive sushi restaurant that I spent hundreds of dollars to reserve, my boyfriend of 3 years proposed… to my sister. She said yes. They’ve been secretly seeing each other for the past year. She just graduated high school this past summer. FML
Today, I'd been getting ready to hear my boyfriend's proposal, as his friends had told me he'd talked to them about planning it. He showed up at my house out of the blue… to tell me he's breaking up with me, only to find out he proposed to his ex hours later. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 4 years proposed to me. I said yes and he gave me an engagement ring. He immediately went to call his mom to tell her the happy news. After the phone call, he asked if he could return the ring because his mom needed money. FML
Today, I broke up with my boyfriend because I was tired of waiting for him to propose. It turns out he was going to propose and had the ring and everything, but I fucked it all up. FML
Today, my sister asked me if I was going to be getting married "for real" this time, because she didn't want to waste her money like she did on my previous engagement. The reason that one didn't work out in the first place is because she slept with my fiancé. FML

This isn't your fault, or the boyfriend's. Your sister is a selfish little bitch. She could have asked him if she was so impatient. By the way, if she really did want to marry him and spend the rest of her life with him, then why couldn't she wait a while longer? Obviously she didn't love him that much if she can just toss him aside like that over something stupid. He's better off without her.

Who the hell dumps someone just because he doesn't propose? Geez, it's only been 4 years. If she truly wants to spend her life with him, why not be patient? "I only want to be with you if we're legally married" What kind of crap is that? I've only been with my boyfriend a year, but if at any point I decide I want to spend my life with him, I'll gladly wait a hundred years for him to ask if I don't ask him myself.

There must be a lot of really young commenters here. Try meeting a guy when you're 29 and now you're 33 and he still hasn't shown you that he's ready to settle down yet. Really, are you going to wait around? How long do you give a guy to decide whether or not he's ready to commit, before you start to think that maybe he's just wasting your time? Four years is PLENTY long enough to know if you want to marry someone or not, and if I was in the sister's situation I would have started thinking about cutting my losses too. Especially if you want a family one day, you do not want to wait until you're in your mid-thirties to start trying. For many women that's just too late.
