Today, my mother told me: "If you didn't exist, I wouldn't stay with your father". So it's MY fault if she's having problems with him? FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my mom said that if I wasn't her daughter, she probably wouldn't even like me. FML
Narcissism in a nutshell
Today, my boyfriend's family offered me the trip of a lifetime visiting their families overseas. My mother threw a tantrum, telling me that it was my fault that she was never able to travel, it was my fault that she got pregnant with me and had to marry my abusive father. FML
Today, my mom told me I'm the reason she's going to kill herself one day. FML
Supportive
Today, once again, my mom ranted about how she sacrificed so much for me by moving to a better city. I said it was for my education and to stop making me feel like a burden. She scoffed, "Right, you never should've been born. My mistake." FML
Fault
Today, I went to a family counseling session because my parents are getting a divorce. I told the counselor that I feel guilty because I feel like I caused it. She says that there is no way I could have caused it, that it's my parents' problem when my mom interrupts her to say, "Yes she did." FML
Projection
Today, my boyfriend said angrily that he should never have gotten together with me, that he should have known a woman with divorced parents would have daddy issues, and never be quite right in the head. His own parents are divorced by the way, and his mom is extremely overbearing. FML
Great support, mom
Today, my mother is still insisting it must have been my fault that my husband beat me into a coma for 5 weeks, because he’s such a "nice boy from a good family" with a really successful career, so it must have been me who provoked him into it. She keeps trying to get us back together. FML
Today, I learned that if you complain to your mom about your future mother-in-law's bitchiness, your overprotective mom might confront her about it and end up punching her in the face. My fiancée blames me for the incident. FML
My life
Today, my mom got drunk and started crying, ranting about all the things she could have done in life if I hadn't been born. FML
Thanks for nothing
Today, I asked my mother why she had me in the first place, as we never get along. She replied because my father wanted me. So, I called my father to ask him the same question, he said he only wanted to have me to keep my mother around, and that didn't work, so I was a waste. FML

Agreed with #3. My mom has once said that to me before too, but I have my utmost respect for her to try keeping the marriage together for my autistic brother's sake. My dad sure isn't the most sensitive guy out there, and I myself isn't in a good relationship with my dad either. But kudos to my dad for sticking around and paying for my brother's needs too, I suppose. I guess both of them are much better than those parents who dumps their mentally-challenged kids to the government.

that isn't a mature way of dealing with it! I think you're rationalizing not "understanding" what the parent is saying. the parent is passing blame. and how is telling your kid "hey, i am miserable and if you weren't around i'd be long gone" helpful in any way? even if it is true, saying that only makes a child feel crappy and responsible for things s/he has no control over.

you guys aren't understanding. the parent is dealing with the husband so their child can be happy

My mom says that.but she means that she loves me too much to have me see her divorce my dad. That would make me super sad, so she doesn't do it.

how on earth does that mean its your fault?

Uhm, no, it means that she's not getting a divorce because she cares about you too much. How did you get that it's your fault out of that.

No, that's not what she said. She has problems with him and doesn't leave him because of you. It's right there in what you wrote.

No. Shes saying its your fault that she hasnt left him. Which is still stupid. If shed be better off without him, she should leave. Having divorced/seperated parents isnt that bad. Some parents just cant make it work. Happens.
