Today, my mother brought over some early Christmas presents for me and the kids. The kid's presents were fine, mine however consisted of many yard accessories, including solar lights. I live in an apartment building with no yard. Her response? "Buy a potted plant and shove them in there." FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Burn baby burn
Today, I was on the road, driving home. Before I'd headed out, I'd scored six amazing large house plants for free. My kids picked them up for me, and delivered them to my dining room. My husband put them out on the patio for me, in the sun, and burned them. Bye bye $100+ in free plants. FML
Today, my mother insisted I thoroughly water all the plants in and around my house before some people turned up. This would be fine except 90% of them are fake. She is convinced it will make them look "realer." FML
Today, my mom was feeling down, so I decided to buy her a gift. Knowing she likes lighthouses, I bought her a tiny one that plugs in and lights up. I brought it home, plugged it in, and when she saw me with it, she said, "Wipe that smirk off your face and get that junk out of here." FML
Garden wars
Today, my mom’s house and mine share the same garden. After I complained about an ugly compost bin she had outside my bedroom window, she finally took it away and put it… smack dab in front of my terrace. FML
Growing
Today, I told my parents that I was planning a garden for my house. My child of a mother got upset and jealous, because, "When you were younger, you hated working outside with us." Sorry for maturing and developing new interests in the past 30 years, I guess. FML
Green fingers
Today, the plant I bought for my apartment a few weeks ago started looking worse. I'd followed the care instructions carefully, so I asked my neighbor for advice. She pointed out that the plastic pot was still inside the decorative pot, so the water had nowhere to drain. FML
Cheeky little bastards
Today, the kids that live down the street had a yard sale in my yard while I wasn’t home. They sold a bunch of my daughter's toys, which I now have to replace. FML
Irrigation
Today, after my neighbor asked me to water her plants while she was away, and I carefully followed her instructions for 6 days, she came home. She stared at the living room and asked why I'd watered the fake plants but forgotten the real ones on the balcony. FML
Today, I thought my mom and I could put aside our differences and open our Christmas presents. When she opened mine, she turned to my dad and said she didn't want the present, so I could give it to someone else. 'Tis the season. FML
Merry Christmas!
Today, it's Christmas Day. Normally, my family would be opening gifts right now. Instead, my mom is holding our gifts hostage until we clean the house. Apparently, "The presents aren't going anywhere." FML

Good to see true Xmas spirit even from people with kids of their own.

Something is better than nothing. Don't be an ingrate; just return them at the store or donate them.

Something you can't use and which will just take up much-needed space is not better than nothing.

Really? Some gifts just say "**** you!", you know. My flatmate once made a trip to latin america and the idiot lost his credit card without having ANY backup. No cash, no second card and even his girlfriend apparently had no money with her. I spend a whole free day driving around, wasting tons of gas and taking care of his shit. I did lots and lots of paper work, had arguments with bank clerks and even lend him money. Oh, and for the rest of the time I took care of his pets as well. And when he came back, what did he give to me as "Thank you"-gift? A cheap 0.5cl bottle of german booze that he clearly did not buy in latin america. Oh, and he knows that I don't drink alcohol. So I'd say his gift pretty much said "**** you!" and I was absolutely not thankful for it.

"Thank you for these solar lights, Mom! They'll look so pretty in the plant pots that I have to take the plant out of to get just ONE to fit! They'll look even better when they don't work at night because my apartment (WITH NO FRONT YARD TO PUT THEM IN) isn't made totally of glass!"
