Today, my mother brought over some early Christmas presents for me and the kids. The kid's presents were fine, mine however consisted of many yard accessories, including solar lights. I live in an apartment building with no yard. Her response? "Buy a potted plant and shove them in there." FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Burn baby burn
Today, I was on the road, driving home. Before I'd headed out, I'd scored six amazing large house plants for free. My kids picked them up for me, and delivered them to my dining room. My husband put them out on the patio for me, in the sun, and burned them. Bye bye $100+ in free plants. FML
Today, my mother insisted I thoroughly water all the plants in and around my house before some people turned up. This would be fine except 90% of them are fake. She is convinced it will make them look "realer." FML
Today, my mom was feeling down, so I decided to buy her a gift. Knowing she likes lighthouses, I bought her a tiny one that plugs in and lights up. I brought it home, plugged it in, and when she saw me with it, she said, "Wipe that smirk off your face and get that junk out of here." FML
Garden wars
Today, my mom’s house and mine share the same garden. After I complained about an ugly compost bin she had outside my bedroom window, she finally took it away and put it… smack dab in front of my terrace. FML
Growing
Today, I told my parents that I was planning a garden for my house. My child of a mother got upset and jealous, because, "When you were younger, you hated working outside with us." Sorry for maturing and developing new interests in the past 30 years, I guess. FML
Green fingers
Today, the plant I bought for my apartment a few weeks ago started looking worse. I'd followed the care instructions carefully, so I asked my neighbor for advice. She pointed out that the plastic pot was still inside the decorative pot, so the water had nowhere to drain. FML
Cheeky little bastards
Today, the kids that live down the street had a yard sale in my yard while I wasn’t home. They sold a bunch of my daughter's toys, which I now have to replace. FML
Irrigation
Today, after my neighbor asked me to water her plants while she was away, and I carefully followed her instructions for 6 days, she came home. She stared at the living room and asked why I'd watered the fake plants but forgotten the real ones on the balcony. FML
Today, I thought my mom and I could put aside our differences and open our Christmas presents. When she opened mine, she turned to my dad and said she didn't want the present, so I could give it to someone else. 'Tis the season. FML
Merry Christmas!
Today, it's Christmas Day. Normally, my family would be opening gifts right now. Instead, my mom is holding our gifts hostage until we clean the house. Apparently, "The presents aren't going anywhere." FML

Plot twist: the attic is code for her ass.

27 why would OP's mother have a donkey named the attic, and why would OP shove them in that poor animal? It never did anything to OP to deserve that.

Did she at least give you the receipt? :( Even if she didn't, at least your kids got good presents :) That's what matters!

I have never seen anybody give a Christmas present with the receipt. However Thats just me.

#15, some of my family does it just in case you flat out dislike your gift. lol. Guess it's not as common as I thought.

My family does it too. We either give it with a gift receipt or let the person know that if they want to take it back to let us know and we'd give them the receipt. I'd never be offended if someone didn't like my gift and wanted to return it. It makes more sense to me to let someone take something back and get something they actually like rather than holding onto it and never using it.

I always give the receipt, not on case the person doesn't like it, but in case it has any issues where it could need replacing. although if they don't like the gift, that's no issue either

Shove it in her

Is she trying to hint that you need to move into a house with a yard? Seems like a really odd present for someone living in an apartment.

Ask her if she kept the receipt (especially for the solar lights)
