Today, my grandparents took me out for dinner for my birthday. After singing, "Happy birthday dear…" they froze. I had to say my own name because they'd forgotten it. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Hey, well, happy birthday anyway
Today, my parents took me out to dinner. I thought they were taking me because it's my birthday. Turns out they are getting divorced. They forgot it was my birthday. FML
Today, it's my birthday. At my workplace, we always get a cake for whoever's birthday it is. They somehow forgot about me. I've been working there for a year, and my grandparents and my dad own the restaurant I work at. FML
Big hugger
Today, my grandpa took the family out for dinner and paid for everyone. He paid the bill and my family and I were waiting by the door. I realised I probably should thank him for dinner. I turned around without thinking and give him a big hug, and said, "Thanks for dinner Grandpa." It wasn't my grandpa. FML
Carded B.
Today, I ordered a beer with my parents at dinner. The waitress said, "Oh, happy 22nd birthday." My parents eyes got really big, and they started to blush. They'd forgotten it was my birthday. FML
Where am I right now?
Today, I celebrated my birthday with my family. While they were singing Happy Birthday to me, my mother called me by my brother's name. When I blew out the candles a moment later, I joked, "I wish my mother could remember which son I am." Before we had even started eating the cake, she called me by my father's name. FML
Drive
Today, it was my birthday. Two of my best friends forgot it, and so did my grandparents. All of my friends were busy, so I spent it alone in my car. FML
Today, for my birthday, my family offered to take one of my friends to the movies with me. I had to pay a random person in my class to pose as a friend of mine, so that I wouldn't look pathetic in front of my parents. She forgot my name three times. They didn't buy it. FML
Today, I took my friends out to an expensive restaurant for my birthday treat. They had arranged for a surprise birthday cake for me which I cut, very happily, while they chanted birthday wishes. When the bill came, I discovered I was supposed to pay for my great 'surprise' cake. FML
You forgetting something?
Today, it was my birthday. My family usually gives me a financial gift, but didn't this time and said nothing about it. I cooked my own birthday dinner without help, then washed everyone's dishes. I got my own cake and ate it alone because they were too busy getting drunk. Nobody bothered to sing Happy Birthday either. FML
Today, I took my girlfriend out to a fancy restaurant for her birthday. I'd arranged beforehand for some of the staff to come out and sing happy birthday to her, but it all backfired when she started panicking and had a serious anxiety attack from all the attention. FML

My grandmas are the same way. They just have so many kids & grand kids they forget. I don't even get upset anymore.

Old people have calendars on their fridge

Yeah but, wouldn't you mark down the name also? I'm pretty sure I won't circle a date and mark "birthday" without a name reminder of whose birthday. .___.

They simply could have singed "happy birthday dear grandson/granddaughter " problem solved ;) but anyway... be grateful that they remembered your birthday and even took you out.

Unless they'd forgotten whose birthday it was by the time they got to the restaurant...

Just be happy they even thought of you, or remembered. I wish I still had grandparents to share my birthday with, so make the best of it OP!

What thought?

OP man up. My grandma still calls my mom Kathy and my aunt Carol Carthy because it's too much effort to remember their names even when they were little kids. She either calls me Carol, Kathy, or Martha, none of which are my names. She almost never calls me by my actual name. Same for my brother.

Can't blame old people for being old. It's just another unfortunate effect of aging, and it's the thought that counts, right OP?

As a kid, I always thought it was called Old Timer's. Sounds cooler.

I also thought it was old timer's as a kid.

My grandma has Alzheimer's and she does forget things quite a bit. They remembered your birthday. That's spectacular. I think it's best to offer compassion because it's common to lose short term memory as one ages. I don't think it was personal, love. I'm sure it was embarrassing for them.

I don't think your grandkid's name is considered short term memory.. Unless he was born an hour ago or somethin

When I get super old I want to do something like Nick Swardson talks about in his comedy special "Seriously, who farted?" and give one of my relatives I don't like a gift wrapped steaming pile of shit lol
Airman1988 9
And just blame it on the Alzheimer's and dementia, if you haven't seen this comedy my comment may have been confusing
elliewantscake 8
Obviously you're still a very, very, VERY long way away from getting "super old".

In their defense, they are old.. But man, taking someone out to dinner when you don't even know their name;) I'm kidding. Sorry though OP.

old people tend to forget things (: so do I, but still.. don't worry about it

Don't make such a big deal out of it, they sound like great grandparents who really care since they took you out to dinner. Be grateful for them, a lot of people don't have any supportive family. I would love to have your grandparents.
