A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, when I tried to break up with my girlfriend of 2 years, she had no idea we were even dating. She thought of all the movies, dinners, and "sleepovers" I had with her was because we were such great friends. FML

well, that's a slight miscommunication.

Happend the other way around to me, this guy thinking we were together. Don't know which is worse... Life lesson learned: always ask someone to be your boyfriend/girlfriend and don't just assume you are in a relationship. Communication is quite important, as it seems.

I hate it when people assume things. It's your own fault for assuming she's your girlfriend without ever asking her.

I know how you feel! My wife, Scarlett Johansson, apparently keeps forgetting we're married!

You need to put some ice on that burn. You'll get better soon

As horrible as that is, you're still in better shape than one person I know. He showed up at his new girl friend's house at 6 AM, unannounced with breakfast and sorted through her mail for her. He could not understand why that wasn't acceptable after three weeks in a relationship, or why that ended the relationship. Moral: communication is the most important part of any type of relationship. I'm sorry you had to learn the hard way you weren't in a relationship, but at least from the way you worded this, she still likes and cares about you enough to be friends.

Honestly no offense to OP or others in this situation, but isn't it a bit commonsensical to ask after the third or fourth date of the two of you are dating, and if so, if it is an open or closed relationship? Granted, I wouldn't personally know since my unusual sexual/romantic/libido combination means I've only wanted to date one before. But it still seems like it should come up, at the latest, at the 2-4 week mark? A "where do you see this going" discussion, or "are we dating " one at least.

Two months into dating my now-wife, I asked if she considered us "official", and she got a little put off by it, and told me to slow down and let things fall into place naturally. I don't necessarily blame OP for not specifically asking, because sometimes it can cause this kind of backlash. IMO, this FML could have been one of two things: 1. All the signs were there, but the girl was oblivious. 2. Only some of the signs were there, and the dude was over-eager.

OP is also female.

Better make your intentions clearer, OP. Tighten the ropes around her wrists and ankles, decrease her rations, and now only two bathroom breaks a day. That should clear up any confusion about your relationship status.

Too funny and perfectly reasonable given the circumstance. :)

Uhmm...need more info to know if it's an FML or not. Definitely not a YDI but that's a weird situation
