Today, my girlfriend and I were talking about the difference between the U.S. and Canada when she asked me if they have their own government. She wasn't sure if they were governed by the U.S. or if they didn't have a government at all. She's a 33-year-old college graduate. FML

Today, here in Canada, my father-in-law talked to me about how people who are "not Canadians" are destroying the country. He called me an "import" several times within the course of an hour. I've been a citizen for over twenty years. FML
Today, I heard two of my students having a conversation. One asked what state Arizona was in, and the other replied Canada. I teach sixth grade social studies and they weren't joking. FML
Today, while teaching my history class, a girl asked me where North America was. She lives in North America. FML
Today, my girlfriend, who I really liked, dumped me after I sent proof of Canada’s government supported merge-like-a-zip campaign, because she thinks that zip-mergers are just people taking advantage of others. FML
Today, my girlfriend, whom I thought I would marry, broke up with me. She broke up with me because I don't believe the government controls the weather. Um, what? FML
Today, my teenage daughter tried to convince me that the UK is a part of Canada. After I pulled out a map to prove her wrong, she got all angry and defensive, and said that nobody's perfect at "geometry". My daughter is an idiot. FML
Today, I had to show my daughter where the USA is on a map. She's 17, and we live in the USA. FML
Today, my girlfriend told me that she didn't know we were actually dating. FML
Today, some people in my class here in New Zealand found out that I'm from Canada, then spent the rest of the period asking if I had a pet moose and whether or not I lived in an igloo. They were completely genuine questions. FML
Today, my best friend called me a moron for disputing her belief that Canada is in South America. FML

They don't have a government at all. It's up to the citizens to print their own colorful money and make up arbitrary laws on the spot. If two citizens have conflicting laws, they fight to the death, and depending on the victor's subjective laws, they then might have to imprison them self.

Our head of Government is decided via a naked wrestling match in maple syrup. The victor then uses a beaver pelt to remove the maple syrup, eats the ceremonial poutine and rides a moose to the parliamentary igloo to be sworn in.

Technically Canada was still not completely independent until 1982 when the Canada Act was signed, severing all political ties with england. Before that Canada had to get permission from England to alter its constitution, meaning it wasn't independent.

Don't be mad at her, it probably isn't her fault. The American education system is so atrociously bad. I learned absolutely nothing and yet still was mostly a straight A student. I won't boast of my ignorance but lack of proper educating is a major problem here.
