Today, my first day at my new job, a guy decided to pay all his parking fines in one go. All £2300 of them. Yes, he did decide to pay it in pennies. Wheelbarrows and buckets full of pennies. That's 230,000 pennies. Guess whose job it was to count them. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, a lady came into my workplace to pay her $120 bill in one dollar bills. I kept losing count. FML
Today, at my retail job, a woman came to my till with her purchases. After I scanned all her items, she handed me two small bags. One was filled with nickels and dimes. The other was filled with cents. Her total was $28.53. The coins amounted to $22.30. FML
That's how I roll
Today, a buttmunch customer brought in $7 worth of pennies I had to count and roll. As I was putting them in the deposite box at the end of my shift, I fumbled and dropped the rolls. All but one broke, spilling their contents on the floor. FML
Today, I was so broke, I couldn't come up with enough change to pay the parking meter at my job. FML
One, two, three, four…
Today, I thought I was having a nice day at work, until I had a client who paid me $376 in rolls made of 0.05 and 0.10. It took me an hour to count. FML
Today, while working as a receptionist at a doctor's office, my boss asked me to check in one more patient before I left. He paid his $50 copay in nickels and dimes. FML
Today, I was informed by my boss that he has been stealing quarters out of my change bowl to pay for his bus rides. He makes six times the amount I make. FML
Today, I had an elderly man come to my cash register. His total came to $15.50 He handed me $5 in nickels and dimes. A full roll of quarters. Before I could take the roll, he bust it open, making me count it. After that was all counted he was 50 cents short. So he handed me a $10 bill. FML
In and out
Today, after finding $50 on the sidewalk this morning and feeling like the luckiest person alive, I got a parking ticket for $60. FML
Today, I had to empty out my coin jar to pay for gas. Trying to be considerate, I only brought quarters, but the cashier refused to take it because they didn't want to count out my $10. I don't know how I'll get to work today. FML

Some places have actually said they won't take change. You can only pay in dollars. Perhaps suggest that to your boss.

That sounds like a funny prank... not for you, of course.

There should be a fine for assholes who pay their fines with pocket change.

In the US the have been cases where the asshole was charged for the man hours it took to count it.

Pennies stop being legal tender after 20p.

In the u.s. they’d be forced to take the payment as it’s to pay off a debt.

I refuse to believe this one! There are machines for counting coins and there is no way any municipal office would accept such a payment! Nice try, though!

There are videos online of stuff like this happening, check YouTube by searching "Paying fine in pennies" and just look at all the pricks that show up

Sounds like a great job -- it's one that can never be outsourced to a foreign country or done by robots. Coinstar? Yes, I've heard of Coinstar. Oooooohhh. Sorry, robot.

They wouldn't use a thing like Coinstar for this though, because Coinstar takes 10 cents on the dollar. However, a typical bank has a change counter. They aren't that hard to come by, you can get them for your house even. Counts and rolls coins for you.

Get a bucket, count 100 coins one time & measure the weight. you'll maximize the time.

If you averaged counting two per second it would still take you nearly 32 hours to count 230,000 pennies. I am dubious.

According to the U.K. coinage act, you do not have to accept more than 20p in 1p or 2p coins if it does not suit you. I researched this specifically so I could use it against customers who came in with bags and bags of them to pay for their groceries.
