Today, my elderly dad once again asked me to make a reservation at a restaurant for him and a younger woman he's been seeing. Meanwhile, I haven't had anything even approaching a real date in over a decade. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I met up with my dad for the first time in 7 years. We planned to go to a nice restaurant but he changed the place we were going to, to Chuck E. Cheese. I'm 18 years old. I waited an hour for him to show up. I then ended up babysitting his daughter the whole time. FML
Today, my dad told me he was planning to have his steady girlfriend over for dinner. He's only had a few relationships since he and my mom split up when I was very young, so I was excited to meet the woman. He then told me that I knew her already. My dad is dating my aunt on my mothers side. FML
Two speeds
Today, a waitress kept calling me "Mom" and my dad "Dad". My dad (69) and I (38f) hang out a lot, and very often go out to eat, just the two of us. Either I look really old, or people think he's got it going on. Why? They ask me, "Is that your dad or grandpa?" Then ask him, "Is that your wife or daughter?" FML
Crafty
Today, I was supposed to be going on my first date with a guy I really liked. He never showed up. I just found out my dad was outside washing the car when my date showed up. He told him he didn't have a daughter and to never show up on his driveway again. FML
Today, I went on a movie date with a guy. He brought his mom. FML
Today, I asked my dad if he'd like to go fishing together, but he said he was busy with errands. Later, in a casual conversation with my friend, she opened up her phone to show me pictures of her fishing with my dad. FML
Today, I made a nice meal for myself and sat down to eat. Suddenly, my dad burst into my room saying, “We have to go.” This isn’t the first time it’s happened, nor was it an emergency. My family just doesn’t tell me when we have plans. FML
He gets around
Today, when my dad said he was dating a woman he met at his retirees social club, I assumed it was a woman also in her 60s. Nope. Barmaid. A whole 42 years younger than him, 9 years younger than me. FML
Pleased to meet you
Today, I was eating at a restaurant when a man came up to me and said, "You're pathetic for having lunch with someone that much older than you." My dad immediately got up and punched the man in the face. My fiancé's parents had to walk in the door right as it happened. FML
Today, I decided to visit my dad. I haven't seen him in a while so I wanted to give him another chance to be an actual dad to me. Apparently, getting drunk and getting it on with his girlfriend while I was there was more important than spending time with his daughter, who he hasn't seen in almost a year. FML

Ask him for advice.

If it bugs you, just tell him to do it himself! It's no big deal, you'll find someone someday.

I'm wondering if he's rich/extremely handsome/gifted or whatever that a younger woman is dating him or how much younger his date actually is (my mind made up an image kind of Hugh Hefner & a Bunny age-difference like). ^o)

That's not always the reason behind it. My husband is 28 years my senior. He was living paycheck to paycheck when we met and he's handsome, but of course I think he is! :) We've been together 5 years and we're raising our wonderful children together. My only reason for dating/marrying him is that I love him and he's the greatest man I've ever known next to my father.

Don't worry op, at least you have a chance to rethink your lifestyle before you get old!

Difference here is you are looking for Mr. Right or Mrs. Right. Your father is looking for Mrs. Right now. It's all in how are you set the bar

Just because the girl is younger means she's just the flavor of the week? That's presumptuous.

there was no presumption made or intended. Somebody who hasn't dated in 10 years likely sets high standards for themselves or their intended partner and as a result will often be disappointed or left alone . Somebody who is generally successful in dating is doing it by finding somebody they can enjoy right now and have a nice night whether it goes further is up to those two people. When your expectation is to have a nice night and a date you can usually achieve that goal when your intention is to find a life partner that is an exact match for yourself the odds are you're knocking to be a successful every time and not meet people

It says with a younger woman he has "been seeing", implying that they have been on dates before. Perhaps the father hadn't been dating for a while and recently started dating again. This doesn't appear to be a "Mrs. Right Now" situation.

Your life is in no way ****** just because your dad is going on a date

Maybe your standards are to high

There was no presumption made or intended here. Most people that haven't dated in 10 years set to high standards for themselves or their date and they don't just go out and enjoy themselves they want the perfect person. Somebody who goes out and says I want to have a nice time and enjoy your night has better odds of getting a date.there was no inference on somebody's motives except going out and having a date. The father is going to be more frequently lucky because he's going out to enjoy the night with the person not to get necessarily married or hooked up he's having a nice night out

Talk to the ones you are interested in OP. I feel nervous to talk to the girl I like and end up repenting. Hope you are not in the same path as mine. Good luck.

Why don't you go out there and make an effort. It's not that hard.

I understand how you feel but your rough patch is really a different issue. Be glad to have you have that connection with your father and can help him out. Being good and generous usually pays off in the end, sometimes in surprising ways.
