Today, my daughter asked me if we could adopt a child. I said no, since we can't afford to support another child. She then asked me if she could just adopt another dad instead. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my 8 year-old adopted daughter told me she wants me to take her back so another family can adopt her because I don't give her enough toys. FML

Today, I asked my foster parents to adopt me. They said no because my dad's getting out of prison soon. FML
In this economy??
Today, my wife and I have been fighting, and she's threatening divorce. Why? Because I don't want to have a second kid. We cannot afford another one. FML
Today, I was talking to my mum about how I'd quite like to have kids someday. She responded: "Well, nowadays they let singles adopt as well, don't they?" FML
Today, I'm in the process of adopting a child. When I called my mom to tell her the news, she just said, "Oh honey, don't adopt, it's the worst decision you'll ever make." I'm adopted. FML
Today, while driving my kids to school, my son said, "Why don't you find another place to live, so we can just live with daddy?" Then my daughter added, "Yeah, 'cause we LOVE Daddy." FML
Grow your own
Today, my daughter told me she never wants to see me again because I had an abortion. She wanted me to have the baby and then give it to her so she could raise it as hers. FML
Picky
Today, my son broke up with his girlfriend. When I asked why, he said, "Because I found out she's adopted. Ugh. I just can't with that, y'know?" Never before have I ever felt the desire to disown one of my kids. It's not a pleasant feeling. FML
Today, I explained to my 5 year old daughter that her older sister from my husband's first marriage lives with her mommy, and my daughter lives with us. She exclaimed, "It's not fair! I want two mommies like she has! Can we swap, I like her mommy better than you anyway!" FML
Mystery man
Today, as I was taking my three year-old daughter home from daycare, she asked where her daddy was. I tried to tell her that I was her father, but she answered, "No, not you! My other daddy!" I've got some talking to do tonight. FML

The poor girl wants a sibling. Having an only child is an evil thing to do as parents. I know this because I am one myself and wanted nothing more than an adopted brother or sister for years. If you can only "afford" to have one, don't have any at all. Just my opinion, but I feel her pain.

Yeah this comment was stupid the first time. Not any better the second.

#18 do you think we didn't see this exact comment already? Or maybe you think you'll find new supporters on a different thread? ...no, this is still a dumb, ignorant comment that 99% of people won't agree with.

#18, I feel sorry for your parents. They raised a horrible and selfish bitch. You shpuld be ashamed of yourself for spouting this not once but twice. Do your parents know how much you hate them?

Knowing your rights is important. Tell her that her mother has that right.

support? isn't adopting free? Hell just get a new one after that one expires as long as you keep your child happy I think that's all that really matters.

Please tell me this is a joke. If not then you don't understand what comes with raising children.

Some agencies do charge fees for "matching" a family with a prospective child, plus the adopting family then has to financially support their new child until they come of age or are able to financially support themself. On top of that, adopted children can often have health complications. So, no, adopting a child isn't "free," and is actually a rather expensive endeavor, costing an average of 245000 US Dollars. That cost will increase with yearly inflation and can be doubled, tripled, or more of the child has severe health complications. Since some children are anonymously dropped off, you won't necessarily know if the child has a late-showing health problem, even if they don't have any at the time of the adoption. It also, sadly, isn't uncommon for matching agencies to lie about health complications the child may have, she there said complication is as simple as "allergy to peanuts" or as complex as something like Huntington's disease. This is without including the multitude of neuroatypicalities that can occur as a result of being raised in foster/state care, which can cause attachment disorder and other developmental complications, and that is even if one pretends every child in foster/state care is in a safe and non-abusive environment. Raising children is never an easy endeavor, and is even more difficult if you want to do your best by them.

Sounds like kid logic to me. "More parents means we can afford more" or something. Children have... Odd logic. Not necessarily WRONG logic, in this case, but odd.

How old is she???

Thats logical solution: one more Dad means more income and the family can afford one more child. Or maybe, if the new Dad is higher quality than the old one, the family could afford many more children.
