Today, my dad screamed at me because I've been "spending too much money". He's been out of a job for 4 months and I've been giving him 300 dollars a month to help pay for bills... and his beer. FML

Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my dad snooped at my payslip and now he keeps calling me a tight cunt who should contribute more. This from the man who smokes 50 a day but hasn’t had full-time employment since 2009. Plus I pay rent, and the gas and electric when he can’t afford to, which is every month. FML
Today, as I was leaving home for my mall kiosk job, my dad asked me where I was off to. When I said I was going to work, he tossed an empty beer bottle to the floor, belched, and said "Bah! Get a REAL job!" He's unemployed and living in my apartment. FML
Today, my dad answered his Skype call by insisting he wasn’t giving me any more money. Thing is, I had been about to ask for money, again. I tried to open a shop in the middle of a pandemic, and I’m 4 months late on rent and utilities. I ended the call so he wouldn’t see his grown son crying. FML
Today, I finally told my dad that he owes me over 400 dollars, and that I need it or else I'd get kicked out of my apartment. He only gave me 70 and said to get a better job. FML
Today, my dad asked me to lend him some money to buy his medication, since he's all but broke right now. He returned with nothing but a bottle of tequila. FML
Today, my dad, who never supported us growing up, and who calls once a month to collect his monthly living expenses, gave me an ultimatum: either buy him a plane ticket so that he can come live with me forever (he's a raging alcoholic) OR to send him $4,500 US Dollars (which where he lives is someone's 6 month salary). FML
Today, as he was going out, I asked my father if he stop by the store and buy some tampons for me and toilet paper for the house, because we have been out for the last 5 days. He came home with a 30-pack of beer and cigarettes instead. I just started my time of the month and we have no more money. FML
Today, nearly Christmas, my dad got mad because I don't have enough money for holiday festivities. I can't afford things because I haven't gotten my paycheck yet. I work for my dad. FML
Today, I found out that my dad has been trying to take money out of my savings account to pay for divorce fees and a hammock. FML
Today, I realised that despite having a full-time job I must really be failing at this adulting business, because I called my dad and the first words out of his mouth were, "I’m not sending you any more money." I do borrow money a lot, and yes I was about to ask for more. What the hell is wrong with me? FML

Simple fix. Tell him "You're absolutely right," and then explain your new budget, which of course does NOT include his $300 a month. then be like, "See? I cut my spending by $300 a month! Aren't you proud of me daddy?" That'll shut him up.

Maybe not......is the OP "giving" Dad money purely out of generosity? Or, as I suspect is actually the case, is the OP actually paying $300/month in rent because he/she is still dependent on his/her parent's support to survive? If that's the case, the OP is getting a roof overhead (and probably), utilities, meals, and laundry service for that low, low sum which gives Dad the perfect right to blow his top if the OP is running up utility bills with hour long hot showers, not turning off lights, and running a load of laundry for just one pair of jeans to wear on his/her big date.

Since OP said "help pay for bills" I'm assuming that the unemployment money goes to the rest of the bills that OP isn't paying. Unemployment isn't that much money, and we don't know what the cost of living is where they are, or what the situation is. Whether Dads in debt and trying to pay it back, or what.

Jewel, even if the OP is living with parents, that's still no right for the dad to complain about how much and where the OP spends their money... The dad has no job... If the dad wanted more money, then the dad shouldve charged more rent. Either way, the dad shouldn't be btching about the OP's money habits till he gets a job of his own. Seriously, as a parent myself, I am disgusted by OP's father... I would never ask my child to pay for stuff while I stayed home jobless...

Give this a bit of thought. You WOULD ask your adult, employed child to pay his/her way even if you were jobless...ESPECIALLY if you were jobless. How could you not when you're seeing your utilities and grocery bills shoot through the roof while your income is riding to the basement on a frieght train? You'd have no choice but to choose not to support someone who is more than capable of paying his/her own way.

lols @ Jewel... yes to paying a rent (that's not in question)... but no I wouldn't bitch out my child for spending their money they worked for while I sat jobless for 4 months... there's no excuse for being jobless that long (unless handicapped and if that's the case then OP sucks and should die for being ungrateful) other than pure laziness... But perhaps that's just me... I was raised to actually work for my living... the idea of being jobless for even a week bothers me...
