Living beyond your means

Today, I realised that despite having a full-time job I must really be failing at this adulting business, because I called my dad and the first words out of his mouth were, "I’m not sending you any more money." I do borrow money a lot, and yes I was about to ask for more. What the hell is wrong with me? FML

Halloween

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.

I understand that we're in a cost of living crisis, but seriousy, what the hell are you spending your money on that, even though you're on full-time employment, you STILL have to borrow money? You need to learn how to budget your money properly. Make a list of bills to pay, food, gas and electric ( if you're on key meters), rent and council tax. If after that, you have a little bit of spending money, budget that as well (bread, milk, sugar, tea and/or coffee). Hopefully, after that, you may be able to go out and have some fun.

get on a budget.

You have to hit the bottom before going up (things getting better). I hope this is that bottom for you and you can figure out what all you can cut out to reduce costs (cable/satellite/15 streaming services, eating out.......) As a parent, I will look for ways to help my kids. Sometimes that is by cutting them off. It wasn't easy for your dad to have to say that. Usually when seeking help, have a solid plan for how you can contribute to make things better. in this case it may be by helping him around the house or even as I stated having a plan to cut your expenses. Dumbum123 is right about budgeting and priorities. making those goes a long way to help yourself.

Inflation and cost of living screw us. Financial progress is a game of inches. Also maybe skill up, if you aren't aiming for $100k+ then you'll always be stuck sacrificing just to survive.

Budget and consider a side gig. Ideally remote work you can do to help.

"Borrow" money. Sure. Even most of us Boomers had to live poor in our 20s, with messy roommates, crowded in crappy apartments. Get a skill and make more money.
