Today, my boss told me I got my new job because she rejected candidates that seemed "too confident" or "too pretty." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I got rejected for a job because they claimed I faked my entire resume. Their excuse? I'm too pretty to be smart. FML
Today, I started my new job. Less than one hour into the day, my boss told me that the reason he hired me was that I was the least attractive of everyone he interviewed, so I'd be less likely to cause a distraction. FML
Today, my boss told me that he’d hired me because he thought I looked intelligent. He then went on to say that it was about time that I proved that I was. FML
Keeping up appearances
Today, my friends gave me a complete makeover, which included clothes from their wardrobe, to prepare me for an upcoming job interview. I was then declined the position, because apparently, I "looked too wealthy" to need the job. FML
Internalized misogyny
Today, I was anonymously sent screenshots of texts from my new boss to my interviewer, saying I got almost all the questions wrong but to hire me anyway because they’re hiring quota has to be at least 40% women. That’s the only reason I got the job, tits and no brains. FML
Today, I applied for a job as a secretary. As I sat in the waiting room, the interviewer came out with his wife. She gave me a once-over, then said to her husband, "Hire this one. She's so ugly, you would never have an affair with her." FML
Today, my boss fired me because I look like her ex-boyfriend. FML
Today, I went on a group job interview, where all the applicants seem to have the same qualifications. When the interviewer dismissed all of us but the prettiest girl, outraged, I told him he was a prejudiced pig, and should be ashamed of himself. Apparently she was the only one who had a car. FML
Unnerved
Today, I was talking to my boss at the end of an awesome internship. He said he was really satisfied with my work, and that he had considered hiring me. Turns out he decided not to because I smile too much, and it freaks him out. FML
Overcompensating
Today, my boss told me, "You oversold your skills in your job interview." I have worked in this industry for 25 years. FML

Not only is that insult in itself, I'm sure that rejecting candidates based on appearance is against the law.

It's not illegal to "discriminate" people on their appearance. Are you saying people who show up to an interview looking like a homeless person should be considered purely on their resume? Or people with tattoos all over their face? It's actually completely understandable and a responsible practice that a hiring company uses appearance as a gauge for potential employees. It works the other way around too, a tattoo parlor may not want an employee who doesn't have a single tattoo. It all depends on what job you are going for. Dress, look, and act the part.

I stand corrected. Thank you for informing me.

at my old job they hired you not only for your resume but also for your apperance. i worked at a grocery store and they only hired 1. people qualified and 2. friendly looking people. you wouldnt want an someone who looks like an axe murderer or a hooker bagging your apples right?

Apparently it is not illegal as such but is dangerous because the employer must be careful they aren't discriminating because of a protected category like race, age or disability or sex.
