Today, it was the first day of my job at a kindergarten. A boy fell over in the playground, so I ran over to see if he was OK. He got up and had a huge red mark on the side of his face. Shocked, I yelled "Oh my god, your face!" Turns out it's a very large port-wine birthmark and now he won't stop crying. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, one of the children at my daycare came up to me and bit me on the face. He laughed so hard at my scream, that he threw up in my lap. FML
Today, I started my first day working at a toddler day care center. At one point I decided to play "got your nose" with one of the kids. It turns out this kid has a physical birth abnormality on his face. I got his nose... his prosthetic nose. FML
Today, I helped out with makeup at my daughter's high school play. As one girl walked past, I told her that she'd smudged pink lipstick all up the side of her face. Turns out it was a birthmark. She cried in the dressing room for half an hour. FML
Today, I was babysitting my neighbor's kid. We were playing in the yard, when he fell and got a small scratch on his leg. I gasp, and he takes a huge breath in and yells, "FUUUCK!!!" as loud as possible. The parents thought it was me, and the mother slapped me in the face. FML
ARE YOU ******* SORRY?
Today, I was at the park with my friends. We were all having fun on the swings, when out of nowhere I heard a thud, followed by a child crying. Turns out I accidentally kicked him in the head. FML
Hello there
Today, at work, the most handsome guy walked in. Starstruck, I went to greet him and then take him to the owner's office, only to promptly walk really hard into the corner of the door frame, smacking my forehead. I have a massive bruise and my boss won't stop laughing. FML
Today, I volunteered to help out at an elementary school. I accidentally elbowed a little girl in the face while playing tag. And an hour later, a little boy flew out of his swing because I accidentally pushed him too hard. They're both siblings and are my child psychology instructor's kids. FML
Today, at the small daycare I run, I turned around to put something away. I heard a splashing sound and then saw one of my kids vomiting. He puked several times, and managed to hit the only rug in the entire house. FML
Fainting time
Today, I was feeling sick and fainted while teaching my kindergarten class. I came to when one boy poured a cup of water on my face. Three kids were crying into my walkie talkie, telling the office I was dead, and the rest of the class had disappeared. FML
Today, I fell asleep at work and woke up with penis sharpied on my face. I'm a kindergarten teacher. FML

YDI because you dont react like that to a child, it will freak them the **** out. but also FYL because how would you know?

Try to explain it to him. Be nice. Kids are forgiving when you can own up to your mistakes. And for future reference, a better response would be: "That was quite a fall. Are you okay?" in a calm, caring voice. You being scared makes them scared.

totally one of the first things you learn is to stay calm for instance telling them they sprung a leak instead of that they are bleeding...kinda an obvious thing

you can "learn" to stay calm, but if a kid has a giant red gash on his face, you WILL freak out

As if you didn't realise before hand, unless you start your first job without meeting parents/kids and letting them play..

True, but some schools have more than one class per year, so she could have been supervising a play with children who weren't in her class, so she hadn't met yet.

Even if he hadn't had a large birthmark, screaming "OH GOD, YOUR FACE!" is just going to freak him out more. I understand it was your first day and you were probably on edge, but come on. If you stay calm, he'll stay calm, you can get them bandaged up and back out on the playground to fall again in no time.

That's just mean to do to a kid.
