Today, I went to break up with my psychotic bitch of a girlfriend after months of abuse. When she opened the door, her 5-year-old son ran up to me, smiling and calling me "DADDY!" for the first time. Now I don't have the heart to dump the psycho and devastate her son. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Psycho
Today, I came home early to find my (now ex) girlfriend having a screaming argument with my son, because he caught her trying to burn pictures of my late wife. I'm back to being single, but at least I can be proud of my son for standing up to her (he's usually very timid). Can't believe I was dating that psycho. FML
Wrong end of the stick
Today, I went to my girlfriend's house to break up with her. It was a hard decision and both of us became quite emotionally overwhelmed at the time. We began to hug as a final goodbye, then her mum burst in the room and yelled, "HE FINALLY PROPOSED!" FML
Not the sharpest tool
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me. Why? Her six year-old likes me more than her. I hate kids. I stayed with her in spite of her son, because I love her. For some reason she thought I was going to leave her and take her kid with me, so she broke up with me first. FML
Today, I broke up with my psycho girlfriend of one month. She actually expected me to let her keep the vintage car that I've been rebuilding for the past two years, and when I refused, she threatened to burn my garage down with us still in it. FML
Don't make me choose
Today, I finally cracked and told my boyfriend that if he didn't sign full custody of his evil, manipulative 3 year-old daughter to her mother, then I would leave. He picked me up and literally threw me outside his apartment, slamming the door in my face when I tried to run back inside. FML
Today, I finally summed up the courage to break up with my abusively controlling girlfriend. I don't know what I was thinking, but instead of leaving as a free man, I left as an engaged one. FML
Sweet relief
Today, I broke up with my girlfriend. She was ecstatic. Apparently, she'd been trying to figure out how to break up with me for the past four months. FML
Awks
Today, my girlfriend's mom pulled me aside and started telling me about how her daughter was extremely depressed and suicidal before she met me, and how happy her family is because of me. I was planning on breaking up with her within the next week. FML
Leaving makes sense
Today, I finally left my bitch girlfriend with her son, who has difficulties and violence issues. Now everyone is telling me I should go back, because the kid needs a father, never mind that I’m depressed and in therapy for suicidal urges. Guess my mental health doesn’t matter. FML
Today, I broke up with my girlfriend. She responded by sitting on the floor, crying like a baby and screaming "WHY?" at strangers. FML

If she is abusive towards you, I would have to wonder if her 5 year old is enduring the same thing? If so, I'd say get out of the relationship and look into ways of getting her help.

If you're unhappy, get out the of the situation. Keeping her son happy isn't worth the cost of your happiness

There's a reason she's a single mother.

Now it's like quick sand. Get out before you get any deeper...

This sounds just like the situation my dad is in with his mistress... :( At least you have more balls to try to leave the relationship.

Just get in your car and drive and don't stop, it doesn't matter where, just go.

The kid will get over it. Get away from her, for your own health and safety.

You've got to leave. You are destroying yourself and not, in the end, helping the kid. 5 year old children are resilient. He will bounce back quickly. You are responding to an instinct developed because it keeps children safe. If you stay for a few years and then leave it will actually be worse for him as well as for you. Go!

He could possibly prevent that by having a chat with the kid first, let him know it has nothing to do with him, you think he's awesome, it's just that you and mommy aren't getting along so well... Something like that. Psycho ex still might undo it afterwards but it's a chance at least. And again, you really can't let that keep you in an abusive relationship. Good luck OP.

If she thought you might be breaking up with her anytime soon, she could have told her child to say that. Do not stay with someone that is hurting you in anyway because of a child. Your well being is more important.
