Today, I went to break up with my psychotic bitch of a girlfriend after months of abuse. When she opened the door, her 5-year-old son ran up to me, smiling and calling me "DADDY!" for the first time. Now I don't have the heart to dump the psycho and devastate her son. FML

If she is abusive towards you, I would have to wonder if her 5 year old is enduring the same thing? If so, I'd say get out of the relationship and look into ways of getting her help.

If you're unhappy, get out the of the situation. Keeping her son happy isn't worth the cost of your happiness

Christmas might have been not The right time for this anyway.. For a little kid to see his mommy heartbroken

Run, don't walk, away! That's sweet and heartbreaking but I've been a step parent. You will never trump that child's bio parents. You will not be able to save him. He's got the parents he's got. And you need to move on. Good luck.

This is flat wrong. I have a stepfather who has been around since I was 5 or 6 and I prefer him over both my actual parents.

one word...Run....

im glad your heart is in the right place, but you cant keep staying in a horrible relationship. good luck

Exactly, they (the girlfriend) can force the child to think you left because of them...looks like a Lose|Lose situation. Good Luck OP!

Maybe try and get her some help? Take her to a couples counselor or something.

It would be best if you leave her, even of her son calls you daddy. You deserve someone better than her.

you got plaaayed like a fiddle, idiot. Run.
