Today, I went into hysterics and started crying when my boyfriend pulled out a Tiffany's box at dinner. Then I found out he'd used the old box to make the $15 earrings he bought seem more "special." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my boyfriend went into great detail over the Tiffany's jewelry he painstakingly selected for his previous girlfriends on their birthday. I got hand towels. In powder blue. From Target. FML
Broke boy
Today, I went to Tiffany's to exchange a bracelet my boyfriend had given me for our year anniversary. It was the first gift that he actually spent money on me for. The sales lady then told me that the bracelet was not a real Tiffany's item. FML
Today, I opened some small cute birthday gifts at my boyfriend's house. As we left to go out, he slipped me a Tiffany box and said he wanted me to open it in private. Flushed and excited, I open it to find a Ziploc bag filled with hair. It was thd mustache I'd been begging him to shave for months. FML
For better, for worse
Today, my boyfriend and I went shopping for an engagement ring. We ended up breaking up in the process. FML
Today, I bought my girlfriend a very expensive necklace. I gave it to her thinking she'd be extremely happy. Instead she was mad at me because my gift for our anniversary was better than hers. FML
Today, my boyfriend gave me a fancy chocolate candy and I got angry at him for forgetting that I'm allergic to chocolate and threw the candy into the garbage disposal. Turns out, he had spent a ton of money getting a chocolatier to put an engagement ring inside the candy that I just destroyed. FML
Take it seriously!
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend with a ring from Kay Jewelers. She saw the box, started giggling, whispered, "'Kay", and then started laughing so hard at her joke she had to excuse herself. FML
Today, my boyfriend bought me a beautiful pair of very expensive diamond earrings, along with a card that read, "To my beautiful brown eyed Princess." My ears aren't pierced, and my eyes are green. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me he'd drive me to the jeweler's to pick out a ring. We drove there, I picked the ring, and the sales person rang it up. I glanced at my boyfriend, only for him to reply, "Well don't look at me!" FML
Mixed signals
Today, my boyfriend took me out to a fancy dinner. Halfway through, he said he wanted to break up. I started crying, but the whole restaurant thought he'd proposed, and started clapping. FML

Maybe you should just be thankful for him taking the time to make you something special. If your that materialistic he's better off without you.

He didn't make them. He bought $15 earrings and put them in an expensive gift box, which I think she assumed had a ring in it, which would really kinda suck for her :/

You sound pretty stuck up, it's the thought that counts you know!

Don't ream the girl out, she posted as "NoRingForMe", so I think what she was upset about most was that she was expecting a proposal and when she got earrings instead, it was a huge let down. Yes, it's a bit suspect that she added the "$15" part to the earrings, but she could have just added that without it really meaning anything in her state of disappointment after not getting the proposal she wanted. She isn't necessarily materialistic.

Eh, I feel bad for OP, but at least your boyfriend bought you earrings... My boyfriend hates spending money, so he never buys me anything. He even makes me pay him back when he helps me buy things. I buy him things all the time, but i still don't get much in return. And no, it isn't because he doesnt have much money, his family is rich compared to mine. But point is OP, be grateful he at least bought you something.

Your fault for assuming and getting all hysterical about it. I don't think it matters what you were expecting, you shouldn't have gotten all worked up until you knew for sure.

While I can see why everyone's calling OP ungrateful, how do you know she didn't like the gift? Yes, I'm sure she was disappointed because she expected to find a ring, but that doesn't mean she didn't appreciate the gift itself. What her boyfriend got her could have been a great gift had he not put it in a Tiffany's box.

To all the people who aren't getting why this is a problem: Buying $15 earrings: okay. Buying $15 earrings and then making her think it was an engagement ring: not okay. Like other people have been saying, would you call the boyfriend materialistic or shallow if OP gave him a cheap gift in an Xbox box and he got upset?

I would give her props for atleast knowing I like Xbox

But an Xbox is the only thing that could be in an Xbox box. It'd be more like a Gamestop box.
