Today, I was talking to a guy I met on a dating site, and he asked if we could meet up and what we should do. When I suggested ice-skating he told me he was in a wheelchair, so I said we could go for a walk instead. I realised my mistake the moment I sent the message. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I met up with a guy from a local dating site for coffee. He walked up, looked me over and said "Ummm, no", then walked off. FML
Born slippy
Today, I took my date ice skating, even though I’m terrible at it. I always knew I had shit balance, but I practically spent the entire time clinging to the wall, while she glided gracefully around me like an Olympic skater. At one point, she laughed and said, "You’re graceful like a cat… slipping across a frozen patio!" FML
Today, I went on a date with a guy I met online. It was going OK, until he started asking me if he should stick with the site until he finds the right person. I guess I know how he feels about me, at least. FML
Today, I got a call from the girl I'd really like to date to meet up for drinks. Excited, I walked out my front door, slipped on a patch of ice, and dislocated my shoulder. She won't go out on a date with me now because I "ditched her". FML
Today, I went on a blind date. As soon as my date saw me walking towards him, he checked his watch and said, "Oops, wrong place." Then walked right past me. FML
Today, during my first date with a girl I've liked for awhile, she tells me about some minor disabilities she was born with. Wanting to be honest with her too, I tell her I'm slightly autistic. Her response was, "I'm sorry this isn't going to work. I can't date a retard." I had to eat alone after that. FML
Today, it snowed. So, a guy I like and I decided to go sledding. I really wanted to impress him by going down the hill and casually slowing down at the bottom right at his feet. Instead, I crashed into him and broke his ankle. FML
Today, while ice-skating with my girlfriend, I tried to do what they do in the movies and make her gently fall into my arms. Instead she slipped, fell, and hit her head on the ice. FML
Fake news
Today, I went to a coffee shop to meet an online date. I couldn't spot him, so he eventually came up and introduced himself. It seems his on-line picture must have been taken before I was born. I spluttered "This isn't going to work," and promptly scuttled out. FML
Nice, thanks
Today, I was hanging out with a friend at an ice cream place, and a guy started chatting with us. As he eventually went to leave, he told me, "That's a nice looking date you got there." Then he turned to my friend. "Wish I could say the same to you." FML

Well technically you can go for a walk together if you push the wheelchair. That would actually be kinda sweet. No walks on the beach though......wheels would get stuck in the sand.

Just don't make a big deal about it :) I think the way you suggested it is fine. I've heard of blind people saying things like "oh yeah I saw that movie already" instead of saying "heard that movie." Going for a walk is a common phrase that doesn't need to be edited even though he wouldn't technically be walking. You don't have to walk on eggshells every time you talk to him, just speak normally.

Hey, OP, I got friends with wheel chairs and they call it "going for a walk" so I am pretty sure you did nothing wrong/ embarrassing. A coworker has a blond mum and she is still calling it "watching tv" or "going to see the movies" although she -of course- is only listening. Figures of speech are hard to avoid. Good luck with your date!

Blonde people are just as capable of watching TV as the rest of us!

Being someone who is in a wheelchair, I "go for walks" with my wife all the time. I doubt they were offended and you can make a joke about it later for a good laugh. We are aware of our situation and would rather people make jokes about it than tip toe around.

Listen, I dated a guy who was paralyzed. He used to joke and laugh about it all the time. You have to have some humor, or it can get far too depressing. If he's a decent guy he won't take it too seriously and allow for a learning curve.

I think that's fine.

I mean I think it's better than saying "let's go for a roll"

You guys can totally go for a walk together. I'm sure he'd much rather you treat him like you would any other human being in this situation than draw extra attention to the fact that he's in a wheelchair. It's probably not a big deal to him so it shouldn't be one to you. :)

I will not stand for this kind of insensitivity. Oh wait...

Hey y'all, OP here, just some clarification (since all FMLs need it), the problem isn't my boyfriend having a jealousy issue, or me being mad he didn't have the winning bid. We got back together just hours before the event, he was unable to go, and it was too late for me to back out. The problem is I know the guy who won and that he's interested in me. Prior to getting back with my man, I was considering going out with the guy. I feel bad like I led him on, because I don't know if he would have spent a few hundred dollars in the auction if he knew I was off the market. However, at least several kids get to have a merry Christmas, because of his generous donation.

Dang it. Clicked the wrong post. I'm an idiot.

I would also think it depends on if he's permanently wheelchair bound, or if he just broke something and needs it for a little bit. Me and my friends always say stuff like what OP said if we injure ourselves.
