Today, I was diagnosed with depression. My girlfriend's idea of consoling me was to break up with me because she can't date a "psycho". FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Moving day
Today, I told to my girlfriend of 5 years that I'm depressed about having no friends, no job and a difficult family life. I told her that she's the one constant that keeps me going. She decided this was a good time to break up with me to "find" herself, since I was being so mopey. FML
Nervous
Today, I went to see my girlfriend to talk about my anxiety, because it's been a big issue. She broke up with me instead. FML
Awks
Today, my girlfriend's mom pulled me aside and started telling me about how her daughter was extremely depressed and suicidal before she met me, and how happy her family is because of me. I was planning on breaking up with her within the next week. FML
Today, my girlfriend's best friend was dumped, and was absolutely depressed. My girlfriend thought she'd show her sympathy by breaking up with me so they "could be single together." FML
Today, I admitted to my boyfriend of three years that I have been suffering from depression for a while now. He took it as a good time to dump me. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me because "we don't communicate enough". She got her friend to tell me this for her. FML
Today, my psychologist broke up with me, professionally. It's alright though, she told me it's her, not me. FML
Movie night
Today, my girlfriend decided that the best place to break up with me was during a movie about two couples breaking up. FML
Today, my girlfriend sent her new boyfriend over to my place to break up with me for her. FML
Sweet relief
Today, I broke up with my girlfriend. She was ecstatic. Apparently, she'd been trying to figure out how to break up with me for the past four months. FML

You don't need her. You need someone who is a lot more compassionate.

Thats crazy. Im so sorry, not much of a loss if that was her reason for breaking up with you.

Wow OP you dogged a bullet there. If she really thinks having depression is linked to being psycho than honestly you don't need her in your life. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain and with proper treatment can very easily be managed. I hope you and your doctor have worked out a plan to help manage your depression. It sucks that your gf broke up with you but it seems like you will be better off with out her. Keep your head up OP.

Well that's seriously uncool. and quite cruel. but her belief that that makes you psycho would've torn you up more than the break up ever would have. she needs education and you're better off without that shit. people these days, walking around like their shit doesn't stink. she needs to learn how emotions actually work

Psycho? You're more like a blue funk. Try some therapy. You can find free therapists. Good luck, and cheer up!

Are you unaware of how depression really works? Telling someone with depression to just "cheer up" is like offering a cup of sand to someone dying of thirst in the desert.

OP, I'm so sorry to hear about this. Please try to keep your head up as best you can. She is a clearly dick and you are so much better off without that in your life. It won't be easy, but just try to remember that you are worth so much more, and you will do so much more if you don't let it get to you too much. Take walks, talk to anyone you can, and don't feel the world is against you because I promise it isn't. Good luck pal

I don't know what a clearly dick is, but I agree.

I don't know how bad your depression is, but my advice is to focus on something else. I devote myself into my work to keep my depression at bay. Granted, mine is fairly mild. "Don't think about it" never worked for me, but I hope this does. You can always pick up a hobby to a team activity to help as well. I got into disc golf to meet new folks around town. I met a few folks to talk to that way. Also, learning to damce helped. It's hard to be depressed when you take a beautiful youmg lady for a stroll around a dance floor.

If she was willing to break up with you because of that then you're better off without her. You'll find someone much better for you.

You don't need someone who will make you feel guilty or weird for having something so many people will experience in their life. I hope you're able to focus on managing your illness instead of dwelling on her ignorance!

Wow. She's an asshole. If she's like that, it's good you're not with her anymore

Tell her you can't date a moron.

This really bothered me. First of all, you definitely don't need somebody in your life who isn't there for you during this time, and who can't apply empathy for you. Somebody to listen and give you their love and time. Also, your girlfriend clearly doesn't understand just how serious depression is and how it can affect people. When people are ignorant towards things like this, I find it really frustrating and hard to handle. I think everybody needs to have loved ones around them who at least try to understand what you're going through. I'm sorry that you had to go through that because I'm sure the breakup is painful, also. But keep going, and I promise you will find somebody better, OP!
