Today, I was at an amusement park with my kids. When we were on the Ferris wheel, I discovered my fear of heights. I hyperventilated, screamed from our seat "LET ME OUT! OH GOD LET ME OUT!!" I also began crying hysterically. They stopped the ride for me to get off. I'm a 45 year old man. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Freaked out
Today, I went to an amusement park with my family and we all decided to ride the tallest rollercoaster. As soon as the ride got going, I realized I'd made a huge mistake and was too terrified to open my eyes. I spent the entire ride screaming, with my hands over my eyes, and afterwards my cousin called me a wuss. FML
Today, I tried to tackle my fear of heights by riding a rollercoaster. Once we were near the top, it malfunctioned, causing it to stop, and we all had to get out and climb back down. My girlfriend laughed at me for how scared I was. FML
What goes up…
Today, the rollercoaster I was on stuck upside down for a few minutes. I shat myself in terror. Then, gravity took effect. FML
Today, I went to the Grand Canyon with my family. Also today, I found out that I have a crippling fear of heights. My family left me on a ledge hyperventilating and having a mental breakdown, while they hiked for another 2 hours. They won't stop telling me how pretty it was and what I missed. FML
Bad moon rising
Today, I went on a rollercoaster for the first time in years. Almost immediately, I realized that my shorts were no match for the forces of gravity. I spent the rest of the ride clinging to my seat for dear life while trying to subtly cover my exposed ass. FML
Sensory deprivation
Today, I went to a theme park with my friends. I was excited to ride the rollercoasters, but just as we were about to get on the biggest one, I realized I'd had left my glasses in the car. I can't see shit without them, but I decided to go on the ride anyway. I spent the entire time screaming in terror while my friends laughed, while I couldn't see a thing. FML
Today, I was on a roller coaster and this 13 year old sitting next to me was completely terrified. To cheer him up, I threw my hands in the air. While my hands were up, we hit a curve and I elbowed him in the face, making him cry. FML
Queasy
Today, I tried being the 'cool parent' by taking my kids to a fancy, expensive amusement park, but ended up getting stuck on every ride and getting motion sickness. FML
Aaaaaaaaaaah!
Today, I went on a rollercoaster for the first time. I sat in the back, which was a bad idea. When it ended everyone in front of me turned around and stared. When I asked my friend what was going on, she said I had been screaming the Lord's Prayer the whole time. I hadn't even noticed. FML
Bounce off
Today, I embraced my inner child and went to a trampoline park with friends. I was having a blast until I attempted a somersault and ended up bouncing right into a group of screaming toddlers. I was escorted out by a concerned parent. FML

How do you get to be 45 and not discover that you fear heights?

You have a phobia. Phobia's are irrational. Must have been embarrassing as **** though.

yea that's funny but the worst thing to happen on a ferris wheel is that on the first loop ur ex boyfriend re-asks u out when you have just gotten over him and moved onto someone else..... it can become a very long trip... especially after saying no and having no 1 else in the ferris wheel with u....:s

If they stopped it wouldn't that be worse because you're at the top for longer. Would it not be better if they sped it up

Agreed. Oh, and how does it take 45 years to figure out you're afraid of heights?

I'm soon 29 and got my fear of heights only few years ago. It isn't fun or laughing matter 'cause some people just can't stand high places.

I always see these height FMLs and never understand that either. I mean, at one point you'd think they've been up a two or three story building.

I have a fear of heights, too, but it only kicks in on unstable ground. I can be on top of a skyscraper without problems, even standing on a glass floor and looking down, but as soon as I climb a ladder.. Might be the same for the OP and the feeling of being unstable on a ferris wheel caused it. but on the other hand, my fear is just a bad feeling of "I have to get down NOW", not screeming and crying, so it may still be fake

Look on the bright side, dresses are figure-flattering.

But floral prints might attract butterflies. Butterflies!!! The horror!
Intoxicunt 6
Hahaha. So wear a little black dress, and Off for perfume. I'm sending you a box of butterflies for Christmas. :)

Today, a girl menaced me with a box of butterflies. I'm terrified of them even though I am a pro football player and have won three Super Bowls by myself. I fainted and bashed my head on my desk. Instead of seeing stars, I saw butterflies. I wet myself. FML.

Well that sounds fun! Taking advantage of others' fears is just delightful. I bet I could get anything I want out of people with threats of butterflies, spiders, and midgets. Luckily, I don't have any real phobias to exploit. Oh, except that one of guys with colorful pictures. *Gasp* *Faint*

LOL I have a friend who's afraid of butterflies...its HILARIOUS :) But we all love her anyway

Kate, I thought you were talking about me for a second... I hate butterflies. I'm fine seeing them fly around, but you better believe I get the major creeps when one lands on me. It luckily hasn't happened in a while, so I really can't see how I'd react now.

That's what I was thinking. Possibly fake. Even if he's never been on a ferris wheel, roller coaster, or tower before, if the fear is quite that bad, he should have experienced at least a decent level of anxiety from other, not-as-high places.

New found fear of heights maybe? Or maybe it was just the situation, theres something very scarey about them amusement parks...
null_fml 11
#36 - True, but then it wouldn't be a true "fear of heights". More like... fear of ferris wheels, as other posters described below. Sufferers of actual acrophobia usually can't even climb a ladder without at least a little anxiety. But, I guess I can't fault the OP for it. Whether he described it improperly, doesn't know, or has simply never been higher than 10 feet in the air his whole life. The symptoms sure do sound like a phobia though. #50-something: Good point, could be that.

You're a 45-year-old male -- that "man" label is in serious jeopardy.
