Today, I visited my dad. He gave the, "You live under my roof, you follow my rules" lecture since I didn't do my "chores". I moved out 3 years ago. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my dad gave me a twenty minute lecture about responsibility and how lazy he considers me to be. He then yelled at me for not making his bed and getting his clothes off the floor. FML
Today, my dad yelled at me for being irresponsible while he watched me fold his laundry. FML
One law for thee, another for me
Today, I went to visit my father. His new wife has hoarded out our childhood home nearly to the point of it being unliveable. That’s pretty funny, considering my dad used to literally beat us if our rooms weren’t clean or we left dishes in the sink. FML
Today, my dad sat me down for a talk. After the talk, he wasn't my dad anymore. FML
Communication breakdown
Today, I got a notice in the mail saying I had been fired from my job. My dad's the boss, who I happen to live with. FML
Our house, in the middle of our street
Today, I overheard my parents planning on how to get me to move out of the house. It's my house. They only came to visit and forgot to leave. FML
Welcome home!
Today, I had an appointment. After 2 hours of waiting in the sun, my mom finally picked me up and lectured me on how irresponsible my dad was for not communicating with her. Not 5 minutes after I got home, my dad showed up and gave me the same exact lecture about my mom. FML
Not interested
Today, it's been a few weeks since I moved into my own place, so I decided to visit my parents. I rang to ask for a good time to come over but all I got was basically, "Nope, you’re moved out now, a grown up, no longer our problem, ring us when you get some girl pregnant with our first grandbaby, bye." FML
Today, I moved back in with my parents in order to help them with the mortgage, so they don't lose the house that has been in our family for three generations. I also found out that I now have a curfew, and so does my husband and our 3 year old son. FML
Today, my mother called me, telling me how disappointed she was at how I let my room "become such a pigsty." I haven't lived there in three years. FML

Say the same thing to him when he visits you.

It's true that you have to follow the rules in someone's else's house. But it doesn't include doing work for their lazy ass.

I hate it when parents are so controlling like that
Respect101 17
It's what parents are supposed to do, Its because they want what's best for their Kid. Chores help with responsibility. I don't necessarily agree with the dad saying that after they moved out three years ago though. Maybe he is in denial?

#21 If OP has been living alone for 3 years I'm pretty sure he had enough responsibility.
Respect101 17
I'm not saying they had to do chores, I meant when they were younger.

It's still a pretty lazy comment. If your kid is wondering why they have to do chores, explain to them that you are living togheter and that you should share the chores that have to be done.

At least you moved out?

Even moving out didn't help him.

Yeah, I agree. I haven't moved out yet (I'm 15) but whenever I'm staying at a relative's house, I always offer to do dishes after dinner or something small like that. Common curtesy.

It's good that you agree, but how does what you said afterwards support that at all?

But the rules in this case are doing chores. There's a difference between hospitality rules and "my house, my rules" rules.

How old is your father? Is it possible that this lapse in memory could be a symptom of something more serious?

Maybe OP'S Dad has a noisy ghost living with him and he thinks it's OP.

That was my first thought too. Early onset dementia or something. This worries me more than anything
BritSkits 22
or he could just be ******* lazy and wants to make op do work so he doesn't have to.....but, ya know, **** logic, everything has to be a medical fiasco.
SkinYouAlive 9
That was my first thought as well, but then again, I've been married for 3 years, living away since I was 17 (I'm 21 now) and my mom still expects me to do chores whenever I visit. I'm not speaking of making the bed, cleaning after my pets or doing dishes either; it's more of a 'I want the whole house clean by the time I come home' kinda chores.

Maybe you should remind him that you no longer live there and haven't for three years..? Maybe he's really confused :(

Maybe OP has a sibling that still lives at home and they look similar. OP's dad might be mixing them up.
Respect101 17
I dont understand people who mix others up. The names I can understand, but usually they instantly realize their mistake. It doesn't usually go on that long. It's possible I guess.

He either has an issue or is just too lazy to do it himself haha
russfml 31
If he's too lazy to do it himself he still has an issue in my books lmao.

If he was completely serious, which is how I took it, my first thought was Alzheimer's or something that produces similar symptoms. I hope he was just being a dick and all is well! :)
