Today, I told my daughter that she wasn't allowed to eat in her room, so she sat at the table and glared at me for 10 minutes while she ate. She's 15. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my daughter is still acting out her teenage issues. This morning, when I told her to, "Have a nice day" she screamed at me, "DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!" FML
Today, I told my five year-old daughter that no, she could not have ice cream for breakfast. She retaliated by pooping in the living room and smearing it on the walls. My in-laws, whom I've been trying to impress for ages, are visiting today. FML
Today, during dinner, my daughter rudely cut into my conversation and gushed that she's "like, totally" going to audition for a reality TV show next year, after I pay her way. Five minutes into her jaw-dropping stupidity, I had to physically restrain myself from slapping her out of her chair. FML
Today, my mom tried to ground me. In the apartment that I own. Because I didn't eat enough of the dinner that I'd made. FML
She's not wrong
Today, I reprimanded my daughter for eating too many chips, since it's not good for you. She responded with, "Know what else isn't good for you? Two cigarettes a day." I couldn't even come up with a retort. I can't believe I just got burned by a ten-year-old. FML
Not a girl, not yet a woman
Today, I got a very accusatory phone call from my daughter's teacher. According to my daughter, I absolutely refuse to let her eat in the morning. In reality, I told her it’s her responsibility to get herself up and get breakfast on her own before we leave. My daughter is 17 years old. FML
Respect
Today, I came home from school and went upstairs to sit on the balcony. I walked past my mom and said hello. She then got mad at me because I didn't ask how her day was. She said I should stay in my room and that I don't deserve dinner because I don't value her tasks in the house. FML
Surveillance
Today, after a big lunch, my daughter told me she wasn’t hungry and didn’t want a snack. Ten minutes later, the sound of a bag of chips being opened summoned her like a beacon. She burst into the room, shouting, “HOW COULD YOU EAT WITHOUT ME?” I’m apparently not allowed to snack without filing paperwork now. FML
MANNERS!
Today, my mother gave me a reprimand for my table manners when I didn't ask for someone to pass the vegetables I could have gotten myself. She then let out a raunchy fart at the table, and had the nerve to yell, "Did you ask to be excused?!" as I vacated the area. FML
Teenagers, amirite?
Today, my daughter told me she would rather hang herself than hang out with me. All I did was remind her to go to bed at a reasonable time to get some sleep for an activity she likes doing. FML

I never had to eat with my family during routine meals... I'm now long past being a teen, and I still do not understand why some families insist upon watching and listening one another chew on things... (For interaction, there are other, much better times. I personally was taught it is not polite to chew and talk.)

Or perhaps she simply does not like being stared at by another person who is chewing.

I mean most of the time I would have to eat my room because my parents would watch a movie that wasn't appropriate for me and wouldn't let me out

What the hell? What kids eat in their room? Eat at the damn table as a family. And if she glared at you, something is wrong. She should have the expectation that she dines with the family, or at least eats at the table. Also, if she glared at you, she deserved to have her food taken away from her. I simply cannot believe the comments here supporting this brat's "right" to eat alone in her room.

I'm going to say...she still lives with her parent or parents, whatever your situation. Your house, your rules. She can get over it.

And that works right up until the kid gets sick of the parents being micromanaging helicopter parents, and get the hell out of dodge the first chance they get. Believe it or don't, but there's evidence that treating teenagers like they're still little kids not only stunts their growth, but damages the parent-offspring relationship. Maybe some kids need more observation, but unless the daughter is a complete slob or has an eating disorder, there's no reason she should have to eat every meal and snack at a kitchen table while being stared at by one of her parents.

I... am so confused by this whole comment. Eating with someone else is not treating them like a child. If anything, you're telling them, "Look this is an expectation we have of you, get used to it." And how on EARTH do you eat that you sit there and stare at someone while they/you are eating? Do you not go out to eat with friends and family?

You are acting like an asshole for no reason and then you got triggered by "mildly annoyed" reaction of your child.
