Today, I thought my mom and I could put aside our differences and open our Christmas presents. When she opened mine, she turned to my dad and said she didn't want the present, so I could give it to someone else. 'Tis the season. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Merry Christmas!
Today, it's Christmas Day. Normally, my family would be opening gifts right now. Instead, my mom is holding our gifts hostage until we clean the house. Apparently, "The presents aren't going anywhere." FML
Today, my parents refused to give my daughter her Christmas presents as an act of revenge against her father. FML
Today, my mom got drunk and decided to unwrap all my Christmas gifts and throw them at the wall. Ho, ho, ho. FML
Sleigh bells
Today, my mom and I went to Best Buy for some Christmas shopping. She picked up some presents for me and told me not to look at what she was buying. When we got to the register, she didn't have enough money, and I ended up having to buy my own presents. FML
Today, because it was our first Christmas as a couple, I was careful to get my girlfriend what I considered to be a very thoughtful gift. She opened it, took one look at it, made a face like I'd just kicked a puppy, and told me that in future it would be better if I just gave her money so she could buy her own presents. FML
Festive spirit
Today, my mother called to uninvite me from Christmas, my ex-wife is going and she doesn't want it to be awkward for her. FML
Blue Christmas
Today, my mum told me she would rather spend Christmas with her boyfriend than with her own family. FML
Today, as I was waiting in line to give my mom her birthday present, my dad gave her the exact same gift I'd also bought for her. FML
Life choices
Today, my mom is coming to pick up the Christmas presents we got for her and her husband. She won’t come inside or come within 6 feet, so she can be healthy when she goes down to the ex-wife’s parents house to hang out. The ex in-laws that hate me. Glad my mom chose them over me. FML
Miserable parenting style
Today, my mom was going to take me shopping to buy a gift for my dad’s birthday, but unfortunately, I missed a spot while cleaning the kitchen. Now my mom is “embarrassed to be seen with me in public” and will buy my dad nothing, and tell him it’s because I don’t love him. FML

How ungrateful. Return it and use the money you spent on her to buy something nice for yourself instead.

That's cold. This makes me appreciate the relationship I have with my parents more. I hope you and your mother end up being on better terms soon. Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day OP.

Some people can never be pleased no matter what you do. It sounds as if she already had her mind made up and comment ready. You did the right thing in trying to put the problems aside and try to get along. Be proud of that.

Been there. I cut off all contact with my mother 10 yrs ago ( at age 33), couldn't be happier or mentally happier. sucks that I must sneak around to visit my step-dad, but sometimes you must walk away to save your sanity.

Next time just buy her a roll of toilet paper and if she asks tell her it's for all the shit that comes out of her mouth.

What a nasty woman. She doesn't deserve a present, let alone to have a daughter. I hope next years Christmas is brighter for you and hopefully without her in it, if she is unwilling to forgive and move on from what ever incident caused you both to become indifferent to each other.

Don't mean to be mean but, mom sounds like a narcissistic bitch.

As someone who had this sort of relationship with literally every member of my family EXCEPT for my mother, allow me to say this: Nothing you do will ever be good enough for people like that, and you are better off without them. (For the record, my family is like that because I am more or less chronically ill due to a genetic illness and they spent 12 years accusing me of faking, being a hypochondriac, and being a drug addict. They basically hated me because I didn't fit in with their "totally a normal family" lie.)

Next year buy her a "toy" and tell her to go screw herself

What was the present you have her?

I feel for you, OP. My mom told me once she would not accept anymore gifts from me unless I am married with children. Parents can be so immature, you wonder how they even raised kids.
